I've told my wife (who's also Russian) about these shocking American news. She said, "What are they, ****ing nuts?"

****ing nuts for supposedly doubting his blackness to begin with? Or ****ing nuts for even caring about it either way?

****ing nuts for caring. But even if you would, it's a little too late for that now, innit?

Because it's socially relevant information to have?

People that say they "don't see color" are naive and lying to themselves.

I think it's used for the purpose of drawing up districts made of one race, religion, or income to elect candidates for one party.

I'll admit I can see skin color, but to me it's no different from hair color or eye color.

What I don't get is why there is ONE question on the census asking about latin americans, and then the very next question asks about your race. Shouldn't that just be the one question?
Warhead[97]
2010-04-03, 1:39 PM #18
That would depend on what the Latin American question is. I'd imagine that that under race it'd list "Hispanic", which would also include Spain, Portugal etc.
nope.
2010-04-03, 1:59 PM #19
the latin american question is no, mexican, puerto rican, cuban, or other (with a box to write the "other" in)

though those options could have been lumped in with the rest of the race options

You could answer Cuban for question 8, then answer Vietnamese for question 9 to confuse them.

how would it confuse them... it's possible for someone to be a vietnamese/cuban

But wouldn't someone usually select biracial if that's the case?

I'm confusing myself now. Forget this discussion happened.
2010-04-03, 2:11 PM #24
There is no biracial option. You just put all the races you identify with. For example, I put "white" (which is retarded considering all the nitpicking about asian and hispanic races) and american indian, writing in Cherokee.

PS: Why the huge deal with every possible different kind of non-white race, but anybody who is white is just "white"? Why no "Other caucasian race (German, Scandinavian, Italian, Eastern European, etc)" type options?

indeed, expecialy since there is enough diferance between them to make it like the differances between people of differant asain nationalities.

Hell, why is there only one option for black, as many people that are black but not of african decent (or are, but were not born in america) probably don't like having to refer to themselves as african american.

This is America. The news doesn't matter. If people will read it, and get their advertisers more exposure = more money. It's all about the money not the content or quality.

i dont even get why this is a big deal. the reality is, that if you are mixed you are considered black by the majority of people. it is kind of a sadly humurous article though.

i think i will put latin/italian on the census since i am largely italian and they were the origional "latin" peoples..

its nothing to do with racism, its to do with the fact that somehow obama listing himself as black on the census is supposed to be news.

Racism.

Seriously, I think it's a throwback to days when white was white, but anything else needed to be catagorized to determine where you fit in society.
