If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

Also, I'd have solved this problem by writing, "Amsterdam's famous Red Light District" instead.

I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

Hahaha. When it comes to love, baby, if it isn't rough it isn't fun. :D

PLEASE DON'T READ THE BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SHORT STORY

I wrote it after watching an unhealthy amount of Derren Brown vids. The idea behind it was to demonstrate how, if allowed to, video games can take control over people's lives, while parallelly suggesting that it's not that hard of a feat to put an idea into a person's head. Before the story asks the reader to "think of a color" there's a great deal of mentioning the word "green" not only as the word itself (The Importance of Color Green), but also in words that rhyme with it (eg., clean, mean), or things that associate to it (Christmas for me associates with red and green - I imagine it would for some other people as well). Well, that was the general idea, at least. Perhaps it wasn't as subtle as I had hoped, hehe. The other idea was to try to break out a bit of the usual confines of fiction narrative. Don't know if any of this worked or not, so you be the judge of that.

Haha yeah, I read it as "Is Amsterdamian a real world?".

By the way, it didn't work for me... I had a whole different colour in mind. But I guess you'd need to know the result for a whole bunch of people. If a certain percentage had the right colour in mind, it could be a significant result.

As a counter-point, I highly suspect that Derren Brown's talks about power of subliminal suggestion is complete bollocks (in fact, there's rather definite proof on the internet that at least one of his TV Trick or Treat shows was staged), and he just uses it to mislead his audience from what he actually does. I still think he's a very good performer, of course. But hey, still worth giving the concept a try.
