I found this on the wolfire blog, they are making a game and paying for development by preorders. And when you preorder, you get access to their weekly alphas. Anyway, I already bought world of goo and enjoyed it. I also played a bit of Gish and thought it was cool. Not sure of the other ones, but if you're looking for some fun indie games, check it out.

The Penumbra series is fantastic. They're first person adventure games based on horror and survival. Very atmospheric and engaging.

Penumbra is indeed wonderful, absolutely worth FREE.

e: Nevermind, free doesn't seem to be an option. Still a great deal!

Now that's what I call a good deal. There's nothing better than quality games that are affordable for everyone.

If I would've had the time, I would've checked out Penumbra as well.

Just wanted to point out that particular part, since Massassi has a history of supporting the Child's Play Charity.

I own and enjoy all of those except Aquaria and Lugaru HD and I didn't even realize they were all the same distributor. Damn, they sell good games. Penumbra is the only game I've actually been deeply afraid of. The demo was a little scarier though, because the wolves were invulnerable or had really high health .

Some people found the download links, which means they bypassed the whole damn thing and got it for free.

Kind of makes me want to buy 3 games I already own just to spite them. It's arguably a charity event.

Joke's on them. Why would you spend so much effort just to save a penny?

I used the doors to trap the wolves before I realized you could kill them. Something about physically locking doors in video games really puts me on edge. Did anyone here ever play that Call of Cthulhu game? It pulls off the intense door locking mechanism flawlessly, allowing your followers to catch you if you didn't quickly rifle through rooms locking doors in your wake. Penumbra was still creepier and more intense because of its superb audio.

You aren't supposed to fight things in Penumbra, most of the time.

Also, Lugaru HD looks lame. And why is it called HD? It looks like ass.

I think some fans made some better textures so it looks a lot better than the original. It's a really old game.

Also, someone on joystiq mentioned that if you put 0 in the "amount" box and press submit on the humble bundle page, you can get a laugh (I did).

They added a sixth game today, samorost 2. Never heard of it.

They made over a million bucks with this thing and now the following are opening their source code:

lugaru hd
penumbra
aquaria
gish

Interesting, I'd like to look at the aquaria source out of curiosity but other than that, no big deal. Wish they did that with JK, though.

Penumbra is interesting because I've wanted to try implementing a similar physics interaction (push/pull items with your "hands"), but I'm not very good at the math. Probably a discordant mess by this point but it might be worth a look.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/05/humble-bundle-gives-pirates-what-they-want-gets-ripped-off.ars

I found that to be fascinating. I know that I personally pirate just about everything that I don't deem to be reasonably priced. However, I saw this as a great deal & opportunity & paid $10 for the bundle. I also downloaded all 3 versions (Linux, OSX & Windows) because as a consumer I don't think that I should have to spend money for the same product across all devices or operating systems. The proceeds of my order was divided up equally amongst the recipients. I'm curious to see how you folks reacted to this (how much you paid, which versions you got & general feelings, etc.).
? :)

I paid $20 and only downloaded 2 of the games (for windows, which I use on my mac laptop). I will download the other ones over the weekend probably. They don't have a problem with you getting all the games for all the platforms, why should we have a problem with it?

I had previously purchased world of goo (I think $20 at retail).

I found gish okay at first, then it quickly became difficult and I lost patience. It's harder with a keyboard than it would be with a console controller, and the game isn't compelling enough for me to bother.

I played through samarost 2 and it was mildly entertaining as a sort-of interactive movie.

I played the aquaria demo and I really liked it so I will probably play that one next.

Oh, when I paid $20, I chose the "customize" option and it had prefilled each to $6.66 and I found that funny so I left it like that. Not sure what they did with the extra $.02 though.

I adjusted it so EFF didn't get anything. I don't think they need the money nearly as much as Child's Play or the developers do.
