Self Criminal Background Checks

So I have to do one of these for an elective at another institution, which I find incredibly annoying but whatever. It seems that it is an easy way to get scammed, so I'm curious if you guys are familiar with doing background checks on yourselves for whatever reason, and who do get them done by.

Thanks for the aid.

At work we use LexisNexis for background checks. We have an account with them.

honestly, I would think twice about a job that asks you to get your own background check done, because it brings up all kinds of ethics questions and conflict of interest problems (the fact that you are the one paying for the service, and choosing it, which even if you wouldnt do it, still potentialy means that you could have chosen one that would ignore or omit certain details), and at the very least, they are being realy cheap, which would make me wonder what else they are cutting corners on.

Check to see if your county has a website. In Columbus I can use fcmcclerk.com to do a search on anyone locally.

It's the University of Pittsburgh, but they aren't the only ones who've asked.

I remember having to go to the county police station and get fingerprinted when I got my teaching license. A fight had just broken out in one of the cell blocks too.

I mean, a job that asks you to do it yourself, rather than doing it themselves.
