Pretty interesting first person perspective video of an assault on a German ship that Somalian pirates had captured. Unfortunately, the dialogue and the analysis are all in dutch, but the video is still watchable anyways.

There's also an interesting article attached about the ethics of recording video such as this and then uploading it to YouTube.

You'd think the Somali pirate groups would learn -- after getting their backsides handed to them on several occasions by several countries -- that piracy just isn't working out for them.

Sidenote: when the video switches to the man watching it on his own screen, it literally looks like he is playing COD or something.

Meh. MW2 has better graphics.

Actually the video quality was a lot better than I expected. Pretty cool!

I was just a bit disappointed how easily the pirates gave up.

They probably edited out the part wherein four or 5 pirates were shot and killed.

Correct, except that you are wrong, and that it is. Piracy is the probably the only way for a Somali in Somalia to make a life for themselves. Most pirates are just paid their ransoms because what's the alternative? Kill them? Bring them to trial in the country where the ships are owned to be tried under centuries old piracy laws? Expect the Somali government (or lack thereof) to deal with them?

So far Kenya has been prosecuting a few of the cases, but they've been unwilling to take any more because their prisons and justice system are packed as it is. There's too many hijackings to send military interventions against every single one and interventions have a high risk of causing collateral damage, especially when oil tankers are involved.

In the real world, it's not always that case that pirates wait until you get within aggro range and start shooting.

Well yeah, its a means to an end for them. Like I said, you'd think after being caught multiple times that they would find some other way to procure money.

Yea just pay them off, that way they keep doing because they are getting paid for it.

Worst dressed pirates ever, btw.

Heh cool. I hadn't even seen this yet.

The commentary describes the steps they took to clear the ship. They caught ten pirates total, armed with RPGs and AK47s. The German crew eventually dared to come out of their safe room and were very relieved.

What he doesn't describe is that they opened fire at the bridge from the heli, which caused some damage. I read this in the initial report. You can hear them shooting in the beginning, though.

All my OFP born skills tell me that they should be moving a bit faster in certain places also they should be doing less standing and more crouching.

When they pass through the bridge you can see the bullet holes in the glass.

Well they're just random people, right? It's not like they're pirates from the pirate company or something.
