I think the sidebar's annoying, although I guess it is kind of handy.

Do not want.

The new design was turning off and on for me over the past two days. Annoying.

It is nice though.

Not a big fan of it, but I'm sure I will get used to it and like it.

Is it just me though, or is anyone else noticing a big difference in the search results? I was searching for some pictures recently since I just wiped my HD and installed linux. I used the same search terms I had used just a few months ago. I got a lot of weird stuff that didn't pop up before, and both times the search filter was on the same setting.

Were you logged in before? Google boosts the ranking of sites you visit a lot, so if you were logged into gmail or something before that might have done it.

On the other hand, they're always changing their algorithms.

Oh, that might have been it. I was doing work at school when I searched, so I wasn't logged into gmail like my home computer always is.

But still, though, I mean it was a drastic difference. But yea, it does seem the whole way it's searched is different, now with the color selection thingy. Which, btw, is really cool.

Mmm I can't say that I'm keen on it.
nope.
2010-05-07, 7:32 AM #12
I wish there was an option to turn off the sidebar.
2010-05-07, 7:51 AM #13
blech. Looks so generic and design-by-committee now, like Bing.
2010-05-07, 7:53 AM #14
Which is exactly how they work

I don't really like it, but I'll get used to it. I'm annoyed because they should either resize the center part to stretch across the screen or center the whole page. This looks stupid.
2010-05-07, 9:43 AM #16
I didn't even notice it really... meh.

Hasn't it been like that for well over a month now?
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

No, they use multivariant testing. I've been seeing it for the past month in Firefox but not in Chrome. Now I see it in everything.

Woah, I've never heard of Bing before.

Quick Google / Wiki search revealed:

"As of January 2010, Bing is the third largest search engine on the web by query volume, at 3.16%, after its competitor Google at 85.35% and Yahoo at 6.15%..."

Google - 85.35%
Yahoo - 6.15%
Bing - 3.16%

Holy crap. Eighty five percent. Cool.

PS. Whatever happened to AltaVista?

haha, I forgot about AltaVista. I used to prefer it the most.

I've been getting this on and off for at least a month. I don't like it. The arrangement is ...odd. And it doesn't have the links to the Google dictionary, which I found very useful.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Do a search and you will see a sidebar pop up that's fairly new.

Pretty sure the only reason for that is that bing is the default search engine in IE now.

Yeah I guess it comes and goes depending on browser and who-knows-what-else. I don't think I like it.

Looks weird having more white space on the right. Esp. in 1920x1080.

I wish the top and sidebar could be toggled. This new layout is excessive and too obviously bing-esque.
