I have tweaked the thing till my eyes nearly pop out, installed new display drivers, directx, optimizers and whatnot. It helped a little, but not enough for my taste. But it seems that the game behaves wildly different on different systems. I have a brand new P4 3GHz and 1 gigabyte of ram. Eidos' technical forum is riddled with complaints.

1152x864 in Windows, 1024x768 in games and 1280x1024 in Linux (for devving).

1024 * 768 but thats because my monitor can't take anymore.

I've just cranked it up to 1152 x 864 @ 85Hz for like the first time ever. Things are very small but hey I suppose I'll get used to it.

[EDIT]: 1280 x 1024 - it's not going to cause any damage is it?

1600x1200 @ 85Hz for the desktop, anywhere between 1024x768 to 1600x1200 both at 60 Hz for games. I can also do 1280x1024 @ 180 Hz
