So I just finished my final exam for Empirical Political Analysis (which is basically just statistics that have to do with surveying), which is the second statistics related course that I've taken in college. Just wondering, how many of you nerds actually enjoy math, and what kind of math is your favorite?

I'm competent at mathematical stuff and by no means enjoy it, but I definitely liked stats better than the other stuff that I've taken because each problem isn't a pointless abstraction.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

I'm an Engineering student so it's essentially my job to enjoy or understand Maths in pretty much every form. :P
nope.

I like to do math if I am actually applying it to a real world situation. If I'm simply grinding through problems in a book... :suicide:

Yeah, last September and I've eventually ended up doing the same thing as I was doing in the first place. Enjoying it a lot more this time ofcourse but I think thats mostly down to the fact that I'm not 17. :P

...That's also the reason why none of my Showcase threads have gotten very far. :(
nope.

Both of those suck. I prefer truly fascinating problems and concepts, like the sort of stuff you find in number theory. Still conceptual but without the mindless repetition.

...graph theory? :P

I used to enjoy maths.

After I did a degree in it, well... not so much.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I like math in higher dimensions, all kinds of general complex number theory. I hate statistics and love to prove things. Just anything...

I love statics.

I double majored in math and computer science. Most of the software development I perform at work involves probability, statistics, calculus, and (partial) differential equations. Fun stuff.

I'm getting ready for College Algebra next month. I like and dislike math at the same time. Basic Algebra, word problem type-stuff that you use every day, I like and do quite well. And I like more advanced math but my mind starts to push back at stuff that throws all kinds of funky looking letters at it even when I understand it. That's why my goal, right now, is to push as much of that stuff at it that I can (excepting the fact that I deplore homework). That's why I'm also starting Physics next month.

Physics is way more fun imo. Sometimes when you're learning pure maths it's hard to get your head round without some sort of basis in reality (or at least I found that). With physics, by its very nature, the maths you encounter is based in something tangible.

Hence why I love my job.

OK SO SOME PHYSICS IS SILLYPANTS.

But yeah, I love-a-da-maths.

Especially when it pays the bills and involves heavy plant. Diggers, cranes and bulldozers running about making your stuff is always cool and never gets old.
