If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

mind summarizing what happens, I'm at school and don't really want to listen to ten minutes of audio :P

listen to it when you have time.. The first half of it's kinda slow getting started but it's soooo worth it.

LISTEN FIRST IF YOU AT ALL CAN
a radio program does this game called "False Confessions" where a person has to call a loved one and "confess" something to them that's completely untrue and get that person to say they still love him/her and it will be ok, in order to win tickets to a concert or whatnot. This girl called her husband who she'd been married to for like 8 years or something, and "confessed" to him that their son was not his. He flipped out and came back and told her that he was sleeping with her sister. Her "confession" wasn't true. His was.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

These radio programs are incredibly stupid. Almost as bad as "hold your wee for a Wii".

Especially for... Kayne West. Man, really?

yeah but you gotta blame the woman for that. I can't believe anyone would be willing to put their loved one through that nonsense for any reason, let alone a pair of tickets.

I've heard this before. Still not sure how it could ever have seemed like a good idea to anyone involved.

Something similar happened in my area a couple years ago. They have "the 3:50 Freak out" and it was the boyfriend joking he had an affair and then the girlfriend confesses she was sleeping with the boyfriend's dad.

That happened on our local station when I was in high school too. Different sort of "back story" but it came out that the person being pranked had been sleeping with their spouse's brother or sister.

"Hold on imma let you finish.."
I wouldn't pay two cents to see that arrogant clown. Even if the roots was his backup band.

Not to defend Kanye West or anything... but he was right about that. Beyonce's video was way better. He's still a douche, though.

As soon as they asked if she was married I knew exactly what was going to happen.

The only thing I didn' predict was that it'd be her sister. Haha.

That's terrible.

Isn't putting someone on the radio without their permission illegal?

It's really not that simple at all. That video took some serious work. It's not the best music video ever made, but it was really, really good.

You talk as if you know anything about production.

Three girls dancing on a white background = one of the easiest things to do if you leave out the choreography.

The video was nothing more than someone operating the camera, moving in and out zooming at whoever's direction while another team obviously controlled the lights. Not to mention that none of it is done in one shot or one take. You can see the edit points and they really stand out. (i.e exactly the 2:00-2:01 mark).

Seriously if you think that's hard to do, you're quite off. Shooting on blue screen for the local news is more difficult than what Beyonce did in her video.

After watching both videos I agree with Temp. 3 girls in front of a green screen with fancy editing effects is a cop-out.

From the beginning of Taylor Swift's video I was ready to hate it, but she pulls off nerdy girl so well (AND she plays the ***** girlfriend), and the production value is top notch. It's like a whole teen movie in a single video. It's clear why they awarded her with best video over the other 4 dancing divas.

still doesn't touch videos of the 80s and early 90s

especially some of the ridiculously silly **** metal bands would come up with for videos (see the candlemass video linked in earlier post... also Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King or any video from Immortal... like their classic Call of the Wintermoon video)

I like Taylor Swift's song better, too.

That was bound to happen when they started that segment? Where do they get the idea for these "contests?"

While we're on the subject: the morning show on our local "Alternative Rock" station, 105.7 The Point, did something pretty horrible.

Courtesy of YouTube, here's the audio:

Here's a recap of the story, but this doesn't give the actual audio proper justice, IMO:

This guy, Chris, has a girlfriend who we has planning to propose to. She found the ring, and told some friends at least one of which told Chris. Some of Chris' friends also happened to see her out with another guy, and they had been seen making out.

Chris contacted the morning show, and wanted to break up with her, so they called her and built it up as though Chris was going to propose there on the radio, and instead broke up with her.

IMO they went about this in a way that was a bit over the top.

You sir, are a genius. Seriously, I couldn't agree more. People don't realize just how much work goes into making a video just LOOK the way it does (Set wise) in Taylor Swift's video. Let alone when the DOP and Cam Op get to light and shoot it (which also changes the look).

If you want a fantastic example of excellent production values, as hard as it is to say, watch Lady Gaga's videos. Specifically, Paparazzi. It's one of the most visually stunning set pieces in modern video production. Same with Moulin Rouge. Although, that one's not a music video but just goes to give another example.

And before people get into it, editing is extremely extremely extremely extremely easy.
2010-05-09, 11:49 AM #34
The only relevant skills in editing is timing and speed, both things that improve with time in anyone.

That said, I still think some people are simply more keen and better to have on a team than others. I've worked with people who were great technical editors but couldn't grasp the vision of the director or the client, and went a completely different direction.

Lastly, the editor ends up making either a bad director, or a low budget look better than it would have. The problem is that you wouldn't recognize that work if the editor did it well.

I still agree, if there isn't a good production to begin with, no amount of editing can fix it.

I hate pretty much all radio talk shows. Especially morning shows. Morning shows consist of a bunch of loud mouthed idiots who aren't able to do anything useful with their lives that get on the air and talk about **** they don't understand.
