In my search for a touchscreen tablet pc that is NOT the iPad, I came across this:

http://wetab.mobi/en/product-details

Specs look great, includes 2 USB ports, a webcam, flash support, multitasking, etc... Smartasses used to call it WePad but then rightly got scared of legal troubles and changed the name to WeTab. (which is still a lousy name IMHHHO)

Here's a clip with a short demonstration. Also the dude disses iPad a lot :neckbeard::neckbeard:

I thought this would be a new guitar tablature website. :(
DO NOT WANT.

I think it looks promising & think you should go for it. I love my iPad but if there had been something like this on the market at the time I would've at least considered it.
? :)

I think guitar tabs are probably the most heinous thing ever invented.

Why learn theory, or how to listen to music and pick out notes by ear. WE GOTS TABS!

I've seen drum tabs, these really confound me. I can almost understand guitar tabs if you're trying to play some asinine bs like tool or any other wall of sound style music... but drum tabs? My god man. Count out the beats.

I have these elitist snobby tendencies too, being classically trained.

But let's get back to my original inquiry on different kinds of sand.

I don't see the problem at all...tabs are simple to read and can be very helpful for beginners, and I doubt tabs ended up hurting music as a form of art somehow.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Whatever, I enjoy playing guitar. If I wanted to I could learn a song by ear but unfortunatly that takes me longer than just search ultimate-guitar and finding the best rated tab, now I'm up to speed and can concentrate on learning the techniques of the song and not the notes. If I want to play a song by ear I'll just make one up myself.

No back to your regularly programmed thread.

+1 to the tabs thing, though I don't often use them. I like to figure stuff out by ear. :P
nope.

New here?

I've also been looking for a small, non-iPad device for mobile administration at work. Ran across this today, caught my eye:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220661&Tpk=t91mt

Heavier than a dedicated tablet to be sure, but nice that it runs an OS that would allow me to do whatever I need to.

[edit]Well, not quite, would have to upgrade to Professional for RSAT, but you get the idea.

I cannot believe the random things you hate. Guitar tabs? Seriously?

Guitar tabs are pretty annoying seeing as theres legions of idiots out there that go "ONOES THURS NO TABS ON THE INTERNET NOBODY CAN PALY IT NAO" and don't even attempt to learn something without them.
nope.
2010-05-30, 1:49 PM #19
That's the fault of idiocy, not tabs
You can't judge a book by it's file size
2010-05-30, 1:53 PM #20
No but it aggrevates the condition.
nope.
2010-05-30, 1:58 PM #21
Well, that's true, yes, I can understand an annoyance or exasperation. It's just Rob seems to get overly angry at things that just aren't worth it (not that I can really classify what things are 'worth it' but you know what I mean)

And this hurts you how?

The proliferation of learning by ear means more people with annoying taste will post annoying covers on youtube of annoying songs and get discovered by annoying record labels, producing more annoying music that I have to wade through on the radio dial.

Whereas the people with at least informed musical taste are generally the ones who learn to play by ear. At least then genres I don't like have people with relatively good taste.

You guys need, I don't even know.

I have nothing against anything it's just that the endless "haveyougottabs" stuff on youtube was bugging me earlier. :P
nope.

It's a great invention that I hear they ruined in the states by stuffing it full of ads and people with a sound effect obsession.

I stopped playing because the only way I can figure out a song is with tabs.

I'm going deaf.

Rob raises the stakes. But has he got the spine to back this up?

Thread zombie time.

The only reason I want a device with the physical capability of the ipad is to control a desktop setup.

Possible with wetab you think? Likely difficult with ipad...

This. Being a drummer myself it takes me about 5 seconds to understand what the drummer was playing and play it myself. Unless were talking like a steve gadd/steely dan lick or something like that. Might take a little more listening.
