Hopper was absolutely terrifying in Blue Velvet. Enjoyed his participation in that one Gorillaz track too.

I don't really see much irony in that. Seems pretty far-fetched, like you're trying too hard to make it out as ironic.

I think you are trying too hard not to see the obvious irony. Heterosexual males tend to not like being anally penetrated by other men but it is, literally, a life saving thing. Go figure.

I realized that this is what you meant, but it still doesn't seem immediately ironic. There are too many factors that detract from the supposed irony, such as the fact itself that it's a medical operation. There's loads of "irony" to be found in medical operations if you're willing to make them out as ironic, but that doesn't mean they actually work to make people go "Wow that's really ironic!". Here, let me give you a couple of examples of what you're doing:

Hey did you know dentists have to go the dentist too? Spend your professional life fixing other people's teeth only to need someone else fix yours. Irony.

Hey did you know that even male gynecologists who don't get laid get to touch women in the genitals? Irony.
