New monitor, makes my eyes hurt
2010-05-29, 10:32 PM #1
I've never had a problem sitting at my computer for a couple hours or more. Until I changed from a 19" monitor to a newer 24" monitor (I now run them side-by-side). After a couple hours gaming, my eyes hurt. Never had this before. Is there a way to properly adjust these things? It is comparable in brightness to my old monitor.

It might be a coincidence. You might try sleeping it off.

Low refresh rates used to make my eyes hurt on older CRT displays. Perhaps try to play with those settings?

Maybe the fact that you are concentrating on a much greater area, more light, different resolutions, one has a different refresh then the other.

You'll get over it. The same thing used to happen to me while playin' HL2 on my 24" but it eventually went away after vomiting a few times.
? :)

Are you sure it isn't brighter? My issue was that mine was about twice as bright normally. I did get used to it though.

Hmm. I have a 20" Samsung and I went to a 23" for a while...it didn't 'hurt' my eyes, but I didn't like it at all compared to my old one. I couldn't find any settings that would make it look as good..so I'm guessing it just had an inferior panel compared to what I had already. Maybe you have a similar problem?

I always drop my brightness down to around 50% and contrast to around 30%, then use Calabrize to get the colors back to being correct.

Heh Calibrize says to drop my brightness 'till the black background looks the same...I'm running 10% brightness 50% contrast already and I can't drop brightness low enough for that program. Oh well.

Heh, I went to a meeting last week, they had an old CRT moniter on their computer, and looking at it hurt my eyes as I was no longer used to the flicker of a crt moniter (None of the TVs or moniters in active use in my house are CRT), it was even worse when it was in my periferal vision.

It was probably running at 60hz. Whenever I see monitors doing that I try to change them to at least 75. :P
