Don't worry, the Fantastic Four is being rebooted if you didn't know.
2010-06-03, 4:43 PM #44
We covered that already.
Also: the first Fantastic Four movie was extremely crap, I didn't bother with the second.

They'll probably get Cap out of the 40's the same way it was done in the Avengers comics - he was on a mission at the end of WWII, was on a plane when it exploded over the Arctic, got thrown into the water and was frozen in ice. He was thawed out in what was then the 70's and he survived because of the effects the Super Soldier Serum had on his metabolism.

I'd like to think that the US just keeps Cap in stasis on ice... waiting for the next time we need him.

I just hope that they keep all of the WWII stuff in the Cap movie. It should stand alone. Then bring him to the future for the Avengers. Thaw him out then.
As far as the shield: In the 40's, it wasn't the round one we see today. It was more like this:

The round one came after he thawed. And I thinks it was made out of a Vibranium-steel alloy.

That's exactly what's being done. First Avenger will take place entirely in the 1940's and then the time gap will be bridged in Avengers.

He'll probably have a round shield initially, just for the visual recognition, only it'll be made of steel and be an otherwise normal shield and then he'll get the Vibranium shield in Avengers which will be the one made by Tony Stark.

That's my guess, anyhow.

Didn't Tony make his shield "better" somehow, but Capt didn't like it and had it reverted?

I wouldn't have a clue, I'm not that familiar with Captain America / Iron Man trivia.

But that could easily fit in with Iron Man 2, given that bit in the movie where he uses it to prop up that machine and the SHIELD agent seems to recognize it.

That's a pretty massive typo of "hate".

It's possible that since Tony's dad was involved with early on, that they're going to go with the idea that he developed the original shield and the one left in the lab was a prototype.

The sad part is that there's no real way to get the Xmen series involved here... Captain America and Wolverine were created by the same government program and all...

Like how in the Wolverine movie they refer to him as "weapon 10" or whatever... Captain America is weapon 1. He was the first.

The sad part is that they already destroyed the great potential the Xmen series had. Talk about needing a reboot...

I'm aware of that. My understanding is that it is a prequel, though.

It takes place before the first Xmen in storyline, yes, but it is a reboot officially... If it's moderately successful there will be a sequel that takes place 20 years later or something I hear...

Oh wonderful. So now we'll end up with alternate universes like with Star Trek. I don't really care but I'm getting really freaking annoyed by the lack of original thought in anybody involved in producing films now.

As long as none of the actors and terrible one-liners aren't back, I'd welcome a new xmen movie. Except maybe the guy that does Wolverine, but I'm not a big fan of the direction they took with his version of the character.

As for Storm... Halle Berry looked the part... but "Do you know what happens to a toad that's struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else." has been stuck with me with the first movie. I can't see her face without that line playing in the back of my head. It has to be one of the most retarded things uttered in a movie, and there's been a lot of retarded **** said on the big screen.

Yeah, but Xmen: First Class is being directed by the dude who made Kick Ass and Layer Cake. And it's being written by this chick:

Needless to say, I'm interested...

Where did you read that? Last I heard First Class was still part of the 'X-Men Origins' movies intended to explore specific characters and events of the X-Men universe. You couldn't really call it a reboot beause it's still part of the established X-Men movieverse.

That's why there was that utterly pathetic scene at the end of Wolverine where Xavier took at the kids away. It was supposed to be preluding First Class.

When Matthew Vaughn signed on to direct, with his big titted woman doing the writing, they said it was going to be a reboot or they wouldn't do it. Obviously, a deal was made.

Fair enough. Although to me that seems a little pedantic to be calling it a reboot when it's set so far before the original X-Men movies.

Almost like saying Phantom Menace was a reboot of Star Wars.
2010-06-06, 10:54 AM #65
True, but Vaughn and Goldman are trying to completely reset the entire series with this. They're getting really serious with the idea of restarting it... He made a comment about how there aren't going to be any "****ing retarded looking black leather matrix ripoff costumes" and such. He wants it to be like the comics. I don't know how well that's going to work, but we'll see...
