Despite the bland dialogue and voice acting (even though the latter would actually be quite DXesque... and at places the former as well), I think it's starting to look pretty neat.

Well, for an FMV at least.

It does feature plenty of prequelitis, though (even though from some kind of a technical standpoint it partially makes sense since technology has moved on since 2000) but at least it seems like someone at the team has read the DX Continuity Bible. Or at least skimmed through it.

As an eternal cynic I won't give it any more praise but even now it seems like it could be a better game than DX:IW. Or at least more entertaining to watch.

What is Square Enix's responsibility in this project? I can't help but think they'll go, "Hey, this Deus Ex thing was cool... but it would really be better with some more ANIME IN IT :circlejerk:"

Square Enix is one of the worst game companies ever. JRPGs are simplistic and stupid and Final Fantasy has the worst art direction I've ever seen in a commercial video game. Luckily they seem to have mostly spared Deus Ex of that horrific style.

I predict they will ruin all the non-linear gameplay that made Deus Ex so good. It'll probably be FF7 with augmentations instead of gunblades. I really hope I'm wrong.

God, gunblades are so ****ing stupid.

They took a mediocre game and made another mediocre game out of it?

I'm sorry, but Just Cause 2 was the definition of fun.

I have to strongly disagree with this statement.

Are you kidding? Tagging on unexplained corners and spires to costumes is not good art direction. Good art direction takes the practical things and stylizes them to be more interesting than they would be. Style over practicality is just random and isn't artful at all. Absolutely anyone can design a Square character/weapon/mech. This is why I slowly started hating the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The Japanese take such broad strokes in their media that it loses me all the time. Even Cowboy Bebop is inconsistent.

No so much their character design but the locations and background art was incredible in the older games. (7-9, hell even 10)

No, they took a steaming pile of crap and made something fantastic.
JC2 is absolutely brilliant, haven't had so much fun playing a game in a long time.
