Can't install JO - cyclic redundancy error
2010-06-09, 12:54 PM #1
I'm trying to install JO, but my PC gets stuck on assets1.pk3 (13% into the install) with a cyclic redundancy something or other. I've tried polishing the disk, different drives, can't get it to work.

Any idea how to make this work? If somebody sends me a copy of that file, can I make my own install disk and use that?

You might do better posting some system info, specs and OS. Most likely an OS issue. I'm assuming you googled it already?

Windows XP Pro, athlon 3200+, 1 gig ram, Geforce 6600 GT.

Haven't upgraded anything since 2005 when I built it, and it was "average" then. In fact, I downgraded because the CD drive died and I installed a couple that I jacked from an old POS emachines computer that was even older so they probably suck.

The CD isn't in the greatest shape, so I'm assuming thats the problem. I'm just looking for a way around it.

Cyclic redundancy errors are caused when the drive can't read part of the disk. Since you already said changed out the drive the problem lies with the disk. You might be able to find JO in a discount software bin somewhere, or you could download it off steam.

I think it's fairly cheap on steam as well.

How did you polish the disc? A lot of disk scratch removal kits are really just cleaning kits. Try using carnuba wax, it'll fill in the scratches (yes, it works, I've done it).

For $10 they can suck a nut, I already paid for this game and I'll die before anybody gets another penny for it out of me.

Hows the DRM? Is it like MOHAA where I can just copy the installed folder from Program Files from another computer and paste it on mine and run it? Or at the least, burn my own install disk using a combination of files that I CAN pull off my disk, and have people send me the ones that are corrupt?

With that attitude, why not just get a torrent of it? You've already paid for it, and yes it is still illegal to download because of copyright infringement, but whatever.

Just copying it over works for JK too. Quicker than going to the store and buying an external cd drive.

But explain this : Why do I possess 1.5 copies of JK and 3 copies of mots?

Some entertainment stores might polish it for you for free. Hastings (my local ent. store) does.
