I drove by that thing on my way through Ohio a couple years ago... It's hilarious that it was struck by lightning and burned down.

I've also driven by this giant sack of **** on several occasions. I'm glad to see it burn. It saves me the trouble.

It's a pushy, tacky & colossal (literally) waste of money & time. If they'd put as much effort in to learning something real &/or useful as they do in to building such monstrosities they'd be inclined to agree.

It's Ohio. They NEED to build distracting things like this because it's ... OHIO.

I nearly had a heart attack thinking the real Touchdown Jesus burned down. I'm not religious at all, but a Notre Dame fan I am...

It's not the touchdown Jesus. It's called Butter Jesus, because it looks like butter, and apparently melts like it too.

I live less than 30 minutes from this horrible thing, it's right on one of Cincinnati's highways toward Dayton. The whole church there is pretty whack.

I don't understand why you'd want to destroy someone's church, though.

He never once said a single thing that indicated he meant anything other than the statue.

Wow. I don’t think it’s possible for a church to become more materialistic than this one. Am I wrong, or isn’t it a Christian principle to help others that are in need? Imagine how many homeless and poor people could’ve been fed with the money used to build that statue?

Okay, then why would anyone want to destroy the statue? It's not bothering anyone.

Except it is. It's a gigantic eyesore and a monument to self righteousness.

Every single person who is forced to look at it against their will.

I'm sure it's caused more than one wreck on the expressway it's literally in spitting distance from.

It's not any worse than all of the billboards along major interstates advertising strip clubs, but no one complains about those.

I personally complain about advertisements, including billboards, to my wife, family & friends almost every day (that subject just hasn't come up here). The ones that really piss me off are the ones between Louisville, KY & Nashville, TN that tell me that I'm going to hell (there have actually been lawsuits filed over these & other ones across my state). They have a right (as long as the court rules that they're not in violation of the highway beautification laws that are in place) to have them just like I have a right to be happy if they burn down.

This is basically what our country has become & I'm personally disgusted by it.

I'm not going to argue that it mentally or physically "hurts" anyone but that doesn't mean that I don't think that it does. I simply don't want to get in to a 3 week debate w/ 37 pages over the issue that no good will come from (there's probably no empirical evidence on either side). I'm instead going to say that it hurts people about as much as me wanting it to burn hurts people.
? :)

I don't know if you guys have them in your neck of the woods, but we have these super annoying LCD/LED/digital/whatever billboards where I live. The ad changes every 10 seconds, the colors are loud and obnoxious, and at the night the things are ****ing bright - you can see them from miles away. THOSE should be illegal.

[Also, they have a cool moving billboard of a guy eating a hamburger not far from where I live]

Agreed 100%, surely they've caused accidents

That sounds like something from "Bladerunner". I think we have something similar to that near our fairgrounds area & I must admit that I usually take my eyes off the road a bit to try & catch the upcoming events.

To distract drivers more than they already are? Sadly you are probably right.
