Wii: Zelda, Mario Sports, Goldeneye, Wii Party, Epic Mickey, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong

3DS: DJ Hero 3D, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Saints Row, Madden NFL, Dead or Alive 3D, Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter IV, Ridge Racer, Metal Gear Solid, Professor Layton, Samurai Warriors

Apparently a Kid Icarus game will be the launch title for the 3DS as well.

I hope these titles don't disappoint. Zelda never has so far, so I'm pretty confident in that, but the Goldeneye remake by Activision I'm less confident with being good. The Kirby looks adorably fun, and I'm surprised they were able to bring back the DKC-type platformer, but I guess they had some workaround with that.

Children everywhere should be happy. Well, except for the ones whose parents only own PS3s and 360s.

I will note that the demonstration of the Wii Zelda's new control scheme did NOT instill confidence in me. While they did seem to have interference problems (and I truly hope that is the case), the simple matter is, it looks complicated, not accurate, annoying, and requires a Motion Plus adapter that I don't have.
2010-06-15, 11:15 AM #5
Don't have a Wii, so it's a mute issue for me, but I seriously wouldn't want to have to be waving a damn controller around instead of button mashing.

Zelda hasn't failed since Zelda II... so I think we're safe on that front. I am really excited for DK and Metroid.

I don't care at all about the Wii stuff. As I mentioned on the other thread, I can't wait for the motion-control fad to die.

3DS is interesting though. I'm not a big fan of the whole 3D thing either, but this requires no special glasses or anything, so it has that going for it. Plus, it can be turned off if you want to, so that's a plus. I'm really just excited about the prospect of a new Kid Icarus game.

This is true, I think two generations from now, we will be seeing full size motion interactive gaming. Perhaps a game you can actually physically stand in?

Kinect pretty much does that, at least as far as placing your body in the game. It's no full-surround bubble or anything silly, but I hope we never get to that point.

Then I'll continue to play my traditionally controlled games that aren't ruined by having motion controls shoehorned into them. Now get off my lawn!

It'll get there, I haven't seen the 3DS yet, but if it can produce effective 3D without glasses, that's just one step closer to the surrounding game experience.

This article seems to think the controls for the new Zelda game did fine:

Even I am not this big of a curmudgeon. I don't own a Wii but it certainly seems pretty fun for games like bowling. The console in general seems a little clunky to use though. The new device for the 360 seems to be on a better course although it will be interesting to see how it handles stuff like putting english on balls. I do dislike the notion of throwing motion control into things just because but certain games, particularly party type games, are better suited and as an added bonus you no longer need other special purpose device such as dance pads to use. I'm looking forward to the voice and gesture control over the navigation of my console especially since I use it more as a media device than a game machine.

DING DING DING

It causes developers to ruin games that may have been good with traditional controls because they feel the need to shoehorn motion controls into things that don't need them. The Gamecube version of Twilight Princess was superior to the Wii version because of this.

And, from my understanding, it wasn't "backwards" or, rather, a mirror image.

That's funny, because the Wii version is easier to play.

The motion stuff in Twilight Princess was annoying as hell. I hated it. I wish I had gotten the Gamecube version.

It was also a launch title.

I really like how Zelda: Skyward Sword looks. It's the aesthetic I've always wanted in a Zelda game:

Looks like the motion controls could be fun too.

I know you're just teasing but I've only ever actually been bowling once and that was almost twenty years ago. I've seen people play a lot of bowling on that included Wii sports disc. I've messed with it for a few minutes. I tried the boxing one too. That was pretty fun.

Frankly, I'm glad to see all this new motion stuff, with the 360, PS3, and the Wii. Not for this generation, but at least since all three are going at it now, there will be a legitimate attempt to make the best "motion" controller. Regardless of whether it'll be through a camera, a camera+controller, or just controller, by the end of this we should know what system works the best, and I'm sure once motion controller actually works properly it has the potential to be awesome.

The Zelda game was very underwhelming, especially that trailer. So you're telling me a game like Mario or Super Smash Bros. can have epic orchestrated music, but Zelda is still stuck with N64-like MIDI music?

I'm impressed with everything else by Nintendo though, they're easily the best of the conferences with Sony being second. I"ll wait and see with the 3DS, but it does sound exciting.

It's pretty much a given that Sony is not in it for winning the motion control side of gaming.

Yes, they have a pretty accurate system, but it's no more accurate than the existing Wii that everyone has combined with the motionplus.

Not to mention it is horridly expensive. $50 for the main controller. $30 for the secondary. And some $99 bundle with a main controller, Eye camera, and some dumb motion game.

If you want just /two/ players to be able to play any motion game, you would be spending a minimum of $209. For comparison, Kinect is rumored to cost $150, and that works with up to 4 players. It's a single purchase.

I'm still not feeling any interest in the 360's Kinect (sp, whatever) stuff, even after the conference. Sony and Wii at least have something tangible that you can hold that helps you interact with the gaming system while you are moving. I don't buy the whole "put your body in the game" concept.

Motion and body gestures by themselves seem more limiting than "limitless" when it comes to interfacing with a device. Sure, it's different... but is it really revolutionary in gaming..?

If you are concerned with the technical feasibility, I've tried it myself and I can say that it does work, and very well.

Not so much the technical feasibility. It seems it definitely works. I'm more wondering if it's a strong enough for an offshoot in gaming. Would it really take off or is Microsoft is just getting a bit desperate to compete with Sony and Nintendo?
