Hell, between Shadow Complex, God of War 1-3, Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, and now this, I'm definitely getting myself a 360.

Gratuitous blood doesn't make a shallow and boring fighter better.

Yeah it does, it just doesn't make it less shallow :)

My favorite was when someone was dragging someone else through a huge table saw blade mounted in the floor.

Not to argue with you, plus now is a great time to pick up the new 360, but MK9 is on PS3 as well.

Holy ****, did they finally make MK playable again? That looks rather good. I am surprised.

Check out the uploader's youtube site, he's pretty much obsessed with all things MK.

Will cyrax be in this new version?

Have you played 1-3 recently? They weren't really that playable even back then. A lot of fighting games back then weren't, actually.

I still hold MK3 as the most playable because I can actually do a 7-hit combo and fatality with Sub-Zero. I usually compare the new MK games (Deadly Alliance, Deception, etc) to MK3.

MK3 was the last good MK game (and yes they were playable, they were right up there with streetfighter for sheer awesomeness). It looks like they're finally getting back to that.

Sub Zero is the one guy I still remember the 7 hit combo of btw ;)

I wasn't a big MKer (It always felt stiff in comparison to other fighting games) but that post reminded me that I will never get Tomb Raider 1 and 2 cheats out of my head. Same with GTA3 to a lesser extent.

I own all of these (God of War is PS3 only) and Shadow Complex and Alan Wake alone are a good reason to have a 360. Great experiences.

The game is going to be a big improvement to Mortal Kombat becoming more of a serious fighter. For starters, those insipid dial-a-combos are now gone and replaced with custom combos that are a bit more like Marvel Vs. Capcom. You can also do EX moves like Street Fighter 3 and 4. Finally you have your X-ray moves, which are kind of like super moves from other fighting games once your bottom gauge fills up.
2010-06-20, 6:48 PM #34
Wait, how does a 'custom combo' work? I didn't know they got rid of that dial-a-combo system, I hated that system. Could never enter the right buttons fast enough. .(

A custom combo (also known as variable combo or excel) is a state, lasting for a limited time, during which any move or attack can be cancelled into and out of (typically including special moves). This can usually only be activated through using one level of a gauge.

In other words, activate a mode and button mash, I much prefer dial-a-combos. So long as theres a large enough variety of the specified combos so you can do short ones or long ones, ones that knock em high, ones that knock em away, whatever.

Oh, I gotcha. I call those stances. I play a lot of Soul Calibur and there were certain characters where if you flick the thumbstick down and over to a side, they briefly did an animation during which you could enter another button and it would have a unique attack out of that animation, then return to the normal stance. Is it like that?
DO NOT WANT.
2010-06-20, 7:59 PM #37
That's a pretty ordinary combo system. Most fighting games have a frame-based system where from certain frames of an animation you can launch other moves or cancel a combo. Looks like all this does is let you extend that window or create it places it wouldn't otherwise be.

Edit: Jesus Christ, I am pretty hyped for this game. I'll probably end up getting a new 360 just for it :o
