Actually that's just a typo.

As for poorly recorded- perhaps their first two albums, but once they blew up they had some of the best production in music period.

Getting more famous usually results in horrible production. I don't think you know what I mean by poorly recorded. Unfortunately this is industry wide.

How do you figure it results in worse production?

Not always, but often. Some of the best recordings these days are by small artists who do it themselves and don't **** with it. "High value" production is run by morons who are trying to out-do everyone else.

Don't worry, once Jim7 notices this thread, we'll get a giant diatribe about why recording for bigger bands sucks ass these days. He probably has it saved somewhere on his computer just for purposes such as this.

So you're referring to the loudness wars. In that case- my comments still stand. They are well recorded and produced albums.
Think while it's still legal.

By 'out-do everyone else' are you referring to compression? Because I agree with that but in terms of the big picture I think you're wrong. Most artists - particularly ones just starting out - don't have the skills to compose, perform, mix and produce an album.

you might be surprised how many musicians "just starting out" have the skills to compose, perform, mix, and produce an album while at the same time not murdering the dynamic range

now if you don't mind i'm going back to tracking down early masters of cds i only have godawful brickwalled remasters of

Yeah, but all that goes to waste when it's destroyed with compression. And I should have been more clear, I didn't just mean garage bands. I meant artists that have producers but aren't signed to huge labels.
