Camping, I'm at one for the 4 weeks,

Do you all like camping?

Is it good? Bad?

Any wilderness stories?

Just wondering...

Where?

I used to do a lot of camping when I was younger.

Too much hassle to do it now, trying to coordinate a weekend with friends and getting gear together and planning it all.

I love to go camping. My wife & I usually do so at Red River Gorge Geological Area in Kentucky (about 2.5 hours from us) as often as we can. I don't really have any interesting camping stories to tell (it's usually very serene & uneventful which is why I like it). My father did fall off of a rock out there on his way to a Guns N' Roses concert years ago after a night of heavy drinking & drug use (he almost died) but I wasn't there.

I was in Scouts forever, so I've done quite a bit of camping. When I was younger we'd go on family trips, too. My last campout was about 6 months ago. Philmont was one of my favorites, 10 days on the trail in the NM back country :)

I just tried to figure out how long it's been since I've been camping. Not sure exactly, but more than ten years. And that makes me feel really old.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

Do pit parties count as camping? haha...because there was A LOT of those..


I think the only interesting thing that ever happened to me camping was when a huge ****ing grizzly bear came up to like 20 feet away from us.

Plenty of bears at Philmont :P Mostly brown bears, one site in particular had a bear come through camp while I was there and the night before someone was attacked through their tent at night because the retard had food in his pockets. Another site had a small cabin, and the windows were busted in from a hungry bear a few days prior.

Did alot of camping at Lake Mead when I was a Boy Scout (Southern Nevada) where Im from. We had to be wary of nasty little desert critters, scorpions and what have you, not as bad as the deeper desert like around Phoenix Arizona. Also in contrast here in Utah is a camping paradise, the National Parks here are gorgeous... hmm I think Im ready for a camping trip again.

1st through the 17th of July I'm heading up to Alaska. We're gonna go camping and salmon fishing on the Russian River, and do some deep see fishing for halibut and rock fish. Will be good times.

I'm in Ketchikan, so pretty far away from that area. Alaska is awesome, and huge.

Last camping trip was last fall, on the Hoh river in the Olympic National Forest.

I camped out in a field when I went to a LAN party.

I woke up, shivering, almost encased in ice for three nights in a row.

Moral: Don't buy a cheap one-season tent for use in November.

You can get paid to do just about anything if you try hard enough (you may have to sell your soul though). There's actually men & women that get paid just to have sex (both on camera & off). It's an amazing world that we live in.

P.S. Getting paid to go camping w/ children/teenagers would be my worst ****ing nightmare. I'd probably ditch them somewhere. I'd love to get paid for camping w/o them though.

Working at a summer camp is one way to do it. There are also various jobs like park rangers or guides where people are paid to camp in different capacities.

I like camping. Car camping only if it's to reach a fun venue or shoot or something. Otherwise backpacking all the way.

Both my brother and sister have spent the last couple years as summer camp counselors. Sister's up in NC right now doing that.
