I'm a day away from getting my first cell phone/plan from Rogers, and was hoping if you guys could share you phone models/carriers, and if you had any advice that I could use.
Thanks.

Yup. Though spring the extra money for unlimited texting. You'll use it more than you think, maybe just because other people use it so much.

I have an HTC Touch Pro2 with Sprint. That probably doesn't help you, though. :P

I've got a 6-7 year old LG phone on the Verizon network. I can't buy AC adapters or holsters for this thing anymore except at flea markets. The pay-as-you-go plan I'm on doesn't even exist anymore except for those of us that are grandfathered in. I like paying less than the current market can offer :P

Just upgraded to an EnV3 on Verizon. Screw Sprint because they have screwed me so many times before, and AT&T blows.

Yup, and it somehow manages to make it through all of the unlocking and dial a call.

Same here. Hey JLee, you running any roms or are you sporting the Stock 6.1? Make sure to backup your contacts to the SIM, in case yours crashes like mine did. I lost it all. .(

Stock, but I think it's 6.5. I have contacts sync'd to Google Contacts via Nuevasync. I'd like a new ROM, though..I hear it makes the phone much, much faster.

I've been using MightyRom (google it) and like it a lot so far. It runs a modified version of HTC Sense instead of TouchFlo 3d. Sense is more like the software on the HD2 and EVO. Looks sharper, runs faster, uses less memory. The only minor problem I have had with it, is sometimes when I try to type a name on the keyboard to bring up the contacts, it lags a bit. Other than that, loving it.

edit: Oh, and it has all the wifi tethering software, weather, and other goodies, built right in.

Oh? Hmm...mine lags a lot during a lot of stuff, so a little lag on contact search wouldn't be bad at all. Is it easy to set up?

It's too bad the iPhone 4 has so many design flaws. None of the Android phones I've used have pinch zoom in the browser.

EVO does, as does any other HTC phone I believe.
2010-06-24, 8:40 AM #26
I'm not sure what pinch zoom is, but double tap zooms on mine? - edit, nevermind forgot android lol

JLee: It's not too hard. You have to unlock the phone first, which requires an application on your computer. Then the ROM installer does most of the rest for you. Check out info on PPCgeeks forums.

Every phone with android 2.1 does. Also the browser wont pinch if you are on a mobile website. The picture gallery also uses pinch to zoom, as does many other apps on the market. (Ex. Dolphin browser)

Like others said, Android 2.1 resolves that. Also, there's pinch-zoom in the latest Google Maps app.

I've rooted my Droid and running basically another kind of OS. It's still Android-based but it's def. been altered. BTW, if you root your phone, you void your warranty.

A cell phone is one of the last things I would want to void my warranty on...I've pretty much always had to take use of that warranty.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Not if you unroot. They'll never be the wiser.

Wal-mart's phones will probably work. Straight Talk or something. $45 us for unlimited talking and texting, prepaid each month with no contract.

Anyone who messes with phone software should know you have to relock/unroot and set things back to default if you intend to use warranty.
