After a whole lot of strife over the past few days, last night our time Kevin Rudd announced that their would be a caucus over leadership between him and Julia Gillard.
He was originaly planning to go on with the vote, but it seems that at the last minute he decided to just step aside (mostly to avoid the humiliation of being voted out as leader by a huge margin).
What realy makes me laugh is that SECONDS after it was announced on the news (before it was even confirmed, as in, as soon as the news said it), the wikipedia article was updated, and I am sure that many people got the "an edit happened while you were making your edit" error as well.
So, Australia now (well, later today after she is sworn in), has its first female prime minister.
Though I have to say that unless she realy makes some good changes, the Labor party is going to have a lot of trouble when the election comes later in the year, as this sort of drama so close to an election is never good for votes.
Though I have to say, Kevin Rudd probably ticked a lot of people off in his announcement last night when he said that he was elected by the Australian people (which is not true, he was elected into his seat by his electorate, and elected to Prime Minister by his party), and then went into what can only be described as an election campaign.
