Scheduling steam downloads?
2010-06-24, 3:11 PM #1
Steam doesn't support this natively. Using windows scheduler to open/close steam at appropriate times didn't work. It seems steam starts with downloads paused.

I have a 5gb a month limit here in wonderful Alaska. However, from midnight to 6am the cap is lifted. Does anyone know of a program that could simply shutdown bandwidth to steam except for those times?

Else, a good macro program? I'd prefer something that didn't involve recording mouse movements though..

Turn the PC on at midnight?

j/k, I have no idea.

Why don't you just pause the download during the day, and resume it at midnight, let it go during the early AM?

I go to sleep at 9-10 PM. I wake up at 5-6 AM. If I stayed up late enough to start it, I wouldn't get enough sleep. If I start it early, it will download too much before the free period.

I'm sure you could find some windows app to do this?

I love how uTorrent has a scheduler

Are you sure steam starts with downloads paused? I thought it would start downloading, but it does take a few minutes to "warm up".

That seems to be working now. I know I had trouble with windows scheduler working properly a few weeks ago. I guess its worth trying again.
