Awesome? Really? I didn't think it was that great.
I'll add spoilers for you BBC America watchers that won't see it until next week.
For me the greatest bit was when young Amy Pond opens the Pandorica and the person inside stepped out. I was sooo not expecting that. The only other high point was the use of the phrase,
"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."
That was perfect. With all that said, by that point,
the Doctor had already "died" once in this episode, and the audience knows he won't be dead or gone
, so there was really no suspense for the last 1/4 of the show. Which is too bad, because I always thought that was one of Moffett's strengths. Where he failed was the "epicness" of the episode. The situation SHOULD have been epic, but maybe
destroying the whole universe
is TOO epic. R.T. Davies seemed to be able to convey that "epicness" as well as emotional/character moments, even though his episodes were generally solved by pushing a button. In this episode, I guess, it wasn't much different: instead of pushing a button,
she just had to remember, and *BING* problem solved
. But this episode just didn't reach me on an emotional level, I was just waiting it out for the
Doctor to appear at the
end.
Yeah, I'll still watch it on Christmas day (the next episode) and next season. I just felt there were better/stronger episodes this season than this one.
"Harriet, sweet Harriet - hard-hearted harbinger of haggis."
