Star Wars "tech" is essentially magic with a different vocabulary.

Star Trek tech is susceptible to Riker:

By what criteria am I to compare them?
I would prefer Star Trek technology to be real, simply because it is so idealistic and utopian (I'd love to play with a holodeck and have any food on command from a replicator)
The technology of Star Wars, however, makes for a far more interesting fictional universe. This is partly because it /isn't/ utopian.

The giant dork in me would point out that Picard explained how someone couldn't accidentally do that very thing to a kid in this episode.

We should just skip to the inevitable endgame

"yeah, well, the death star"

"nuh-uh the borg could adapt to it and also what if they assimilate a jedi and get the force"

"they can't adapt if the ship is destroyed in one shot, death star still wins"

I don't think this will be the same kind of debate it might have been 20 years ago. :/ sadly

These kinds of debates never really hold any merit to me, anyone (who has some power over the series' main canon) can just make up a hyperstarship (hypercharacter) that can beat like 600 best starships (characters) from the other series and the other "side" will just do the same afterwards, vice versa ad infinitum.

My personal preference is still Star Wars, even though admittedly there are no proper SW equivalents to The Picard Song.

Star Wars just feels like a lot of clones, light sabers, and huge friggin oversized super duper ooper star destroyers that are each exponentially bigger than the previous one.

Yes, and I'd do anything to have my own working lightsaber.

Imagine walking down the canned food aisle while simultaneously sticking the lightsaber blade 6-inches deep onto a shelf, cutting open all sorts of cans as you passed.

Am I the only person that didn't interpret this as a question of which one's technology would outperform the other in combat?

Star Trek never gave me that powerful inspirational feeling and also the obsession of its magic that Star Wars gave me. And besides I sure as hell dont like the idea of Teleportation, having every cell in your molecular structure being totally torn apart by each every fragment and then carried through a radio frequency or other energy on the light spectrum, and being reassembled at the destination platform. Just think what if a glitch just occurred in the computer system, also remember the movie The Fly?

I like how they're attributed to some random internet tag instead of the actual game the songs came from (Force Commander).

Edit: Also, I see yours, and raise you a Gangsta Rap:

Might as well compare Star Trek tech with Lord of The Rings if you're going to insist on comparing different genres.

Lord of the Rings is depressing because it takes place on a dying world.

Agreed.

1.) Both techs have clear sound in a space setting when firing weapons or powering thrusters.

2.) One uses warp technology for vast distance travel whilst the other calls it hyperspace. Hyperspace is a funny word, but I don't think any star wars writer can define it. Warp is a little better though.

Based off these two, Battlestar Galactica has both beat due to being realistic. To a degree.

I don't know.
