I can't believe it's been a little over one year since I graduated college and moved out West.

In that year, I...
  • Spectated at the Winter Olympics
  • Saw 30+ bands at the Coachella music festival
  • Crashed a Mustang GT one week after buying it
  • Got my nose broken in a barfight and have a scar for life
  • Sea kayaked with bald eagles and orca whales
  • Hosted my first kegger
  • Doubled my "score" :P
  • Somehow totally kicked ass at work
  • Had dinner with one of the guys behind Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong

I can't really compare this year to previous years. I certainly did/saw/experienced a lot that was good and bad. I just did... so much more than before. I still miss home. :(

For those of you who have graduated recently (or less so) what was your first year after college like? ...how about your second?

It has always taken the social bubble of education to allow me to make friends. It takes me a long time for me to warm to people and them to me, and I just don't get enough time with new people post-university to make friends. As a result, my social life has almost completely disappeared (not that it was great to start with).

I've been out less nights in the last 3 years than I would have in just one semester at university, probably much less than a whole semester too.

You figure it out pretty quickly... it's not so hard. You're probably more prepared than you think.

I haven't graduated yet (I'm 24??) but I'm almost completely independent from my parents. I haven't lived at home since 2008, and the only thing I still get from my parents is dental insurance, because for some reason the insurance company is really nice and lets me stay on the plan until I'm 25.

I haven't had much of a chance to do anything amazing yet like Gris has, mostly because of side projects that I work on. But I plan to! :hist101:

Do you have coworkers that go out? Try to get in on it. If you're as quiet as you say you are, they probably don't bother inviting you because you never show interest.

My post-Finn high schule years have been a mess really, 2007 was great but the rest have been err-

At least money's flowing in (~1900 bucks (1600 €) a month after taxes ain't much but it could be worse and at least I'll get to keep ~1600 bucks (1300 €) after rent and all).

I do have to admit time sort of went by rather fast when I was working on TODOA. Oh I shan't get silly ideas!

Hit me up exactly a year from now and I'll have lots to say. Unfortunately, since I've graduated college 2 years ago, I've done little of note besides work more and no school.

The last day I was in any school was in the spring of 2003...if I try to think of these years between then and now, I alternate between getting a headache and drawing a blank!
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I graduated in 2004 from graphic design school.

Over the last year I've:

- Met my girlfriend
- Moved into a bigger appartment
- Painted said bigger appartment
- Went camping 5 times
- Written ~150,000 words in short stories, blogs and novel
- Beaten ~20 video games, some twice
- Read ~10 novels
- Built myself new furniture for my living room
- Payed 500$ in repairs and maintenance for my car over the year

Overall... a very good and easy going year

Well, I just graduated from college a little under 2 months ago.

  • Graduated with a B.B.A. in Management Information Systems (Summa Cum Laude)
  • Interviewed twice with one company.
  • Interviewed with the Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Applied for jobs.
  • Applied for jobs.
  • Applied for jobs.
  • Currently working on planning/organizing my own business.
  • Have 3 interviews coming up within a week.

Not terribly exciting, but it could be worse.

I didn't say I was quiet, I just don't form bonds with people very easily. And no, there is almost no social scene at work, there hasn't been for about 2 years.

It was worse then there was a social scene though, because I'd just go home depressed every time -- because I was failing to find a rapport with anyone.

  • Moved back from working at CERN to finish my PhD and write up, sucks but hey
  • Moved into my own flat in London, costs a fortune but worth it for the piece and quiet and not dealing with idiot flatmates
  • Managed to keep my long distance relationship going
  • Got my name on a few ATLAS papers
  • Still writing up and working on REAL data for the first time....annoying it's taken this long to happen
  • Now have 3 months to find a job in a field the government has already cut funding in and is planning a further 25% cut

Not a bad year, would like to still be out at CERN but I've gotta finish this PhD at some point and I'm quite looking forward to getting a "real" job.

I have employment.

I don't have work.

I wish I was anywhere but here.

I graduated almost a year ago, and all I have to show for it are £614 in benefits and a £20 bus ticket.

Uh, I graduated from High School and joined the Marines. I ****ed around driving a zamboni for like two years and then went to Iraq. That was interspersed with doing nothing productive, and thinking ab out doing something productive.

The other night I was so drunk that I thought the two girls fighting over me in the 7-11 bathroom were Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

I have completely and utterly wasted my life and sent it in the wrong direction and I'm not sure what to do about it.

Still avoiding the real world. It's nice.

It's sorta bothered me when people use the phrase 'real world' all the time, or 'real life', not how you used it here, but to describe the transition from college to the workplace by saying

"my life is over then"
or
"my life starts then"

just kinda annoys me, I think it's a poor attitude, I guess? It's either an unnecessarily fatalistic attitude about working for a living, and being independent/self reliant, or an admission of being aimless while in education and not seeing the worth in that time (except as a preparation for "real life").

I graduated from a community college, I turned down a good job, I took a decent job, I failed to return to school to get a 4 year degree, I took a ****ty job, I broke up w/ my girlfriend of 5 years (on/off again), I met an amazing woman from France, we got married, I lost my ****ty job & now we're having a child.

We're currently trying to open our own restaurant (we're taking our time w/ this) but I'm going to be training under a French chef when his restaurant opens some time this year & am studying to get some certifications (A+, Network+, Security+ & Linux+) just in case things don't work out.

I play whatever I'm paid to, and I teach whatever people want to learn. :p I'm currently in a rock cover band but what I really like to play is jazz. I also try to teach people properly, there's a lot of bad guitar teachers out there.

I'm not sure what I want to do with music anymore. I like teaching so I'm thinking about teachers' college but I've also become really interested in film scoring.
