Wait, you're a QA engineer? I didn't know that. Good luck!

I am not a QA (Quality Assurance, for those who haven't heard the term before) engineer, I am an Implementation Manager for Phase Forward (soon to be Oracle - yes, *that* Oracle).

But... I hope that my experience in working with the technical aspects of clinical trials would give them the impression that I'm rather diligent about QA. And QA in my understanding had been historically the easiest way to break into the field.

Btw, thanks!

Good luck, that sounds fun. More fun than oracle anyway!

Thanks guys. Really hope they at least ask me for an interview.

I'll keep you updated. :)

Thanks! Yeah, we're about to become the core of their Healthcare Division, but I'm bloody sick of working in a field in which I've absolutely no interest in...

What are you trying to go into after QA?

PS, get your own nerf gun, afaik all the QA guys here have one

Writing*, if all works out (www.maxsalnikov.com). :)

I will keep my fingers crossed for at least 2 minutes per day until I hear something back from them.

QA isn't play testing or anything like that. This QA position looks like a straight up software engineering position. Writing integration, system, regression test suites. Very much requiring a CS degree.

In any case, good luck :omg:

Here's their internship for the same position in Frankfurt:

(so hopefully, it's not as hardcore as you describe)

Damn Koobie! that would be a fantastic opportunity. And also for an Internship position in Frankfurt Germany would be sweet. All I did was work in a stinky, oily, factory about 40 Kilometers from Frankfurt, but I've been all over that city.

To be honest they probably won't give you a second glance if you don't have the degree and the industry experience. But the internship is much more probable.

I'm waiting for another interview from Crytek myself (had one before), they're not too picky with who they interview.

Hope you get it nonetheless, *vibes*. :D

On another note: Don't sit and wait, they have a very low response time. lol

It scares me that you think a QA position requires a CS degree. Integration, system and regression tests in and of themselves don't necessarily have to be complicated; it depends on the complexity of the system you are trying to test.

Hehe, thanks, and good luck to you too! :) Well, I did send in my CV on Wednesday -- haven't heard anything back so far -- but with all the holidays I think I can retain a slither of hope until at least the middle of next week.

I did apply to them once before as well, for a position in Germany IIRC. They were pretty fast in getting back to me saying that not having a EU citizenship automatically disqualifies me from the position (I have a permanent residence permit in Hungary, though, so wouldn't require any of the papers that I would have needed to work in Germany).

Of course it doesn't require a degree, but judging by the job description this position requires something similar or an equivalent amount of self-study. Complicated systems require more than "plug **** together, see if it works" which is what the pathetic QA is at most development shops. The more sophisticated the system, the more sophisticated the tests and the more a QA position starts to look like engineering. I'll go out on a limb here and assume that Crytek's software is pretty sophisticated.

I never said he couldn't get it or that he shouldn't try. I wish him luck but I just want him to know that QA doesn't necessarily mean what he thinks it means.

I've yet to see a QA opening in my area that "requires" anything less than a BSEE or BSME. Almost all of them "desire" a MSEE or MSIE. However, just about everything in my area is government contract work so that probably has something to do w/ it.
? :)
