A milestone day. All this jabber on the internet about spam this, spamming that, spammers here, spammers there, and I finally tried the real thing. Sliced, fried, with some ketchup. I had about a quarter of the can and I can't........stop..........eating.........it.................!!!!!

YUM!

I've never eaten a pickle or a tomato. Actually theres a lot of stuff I've never eaten that people laugh at me for. I don't think I've ever had an orange either.

Spamfish lies.

I'm not a big fan of Tomatoes, (Maybe on burgers) but pickles are yum and oranges are super yum. In fact i've got about 50 Valencias up in a grocery bag waiting to be squeezed into juice....came off my friends tree. :v:

You've never ate like... a salad? Or a ... full hamburger?

Spam is delicious. Put a few slices on the pan to brown and heat them, make some eggs along with it, add ketchup, BOOM. Instant kingly breakfast.

Spam tastes like a gourmet meal when compared to hákarl. Nyum!

Spam is awesome! Don't by the offbrand stuff though. That tastes like crap. Also, I hate pickles. They are nasty.

You know what I love? How most everybody that I know that knocks it hasn't even tried it. Then they spread the bad word to everyone else, which just compounds the whole thing. They ride the wave of 'spam is nasty', just because they might get ridiculed by someone else that hasn't even tried it, or because it might smell or look bad. A lot of food may look or smell bad but tastes great. It's a preference thing that has spiraled out of control. I've already said, I don't like pickles. I don't like mustard either. And I actually try both now and then just to see if my tastes had changed. But that doesn't mean I am going to go around telling people not to eat it, or making fun of people who do like it.

I want to know, how many of the Massassians that are complaining about it have even had it? Hmmm... ?

I once ate 'raw' spam. Do not do this. Cooked, eh. It's not bad, but it's not great either. It's just sort of... whatever. Tastes like meat. Not any specific meat, just generic meat flavor.

This is so true. Especially because people's tastes are influenced by others opinions before they try it.

Spam can be made well or it can be made terrible, just like anything else. I haven't had it in years but if I were to get it again I'd probably stick with the low salt variety because regular spam is too salty for my tastes.

Isn't that the one that no one likes but they eat it anyway to prove that they are manly? And I don't just mean, "It's a harsh acquired taste" I mean the sole purpose of it is to be disgusting just so you can prove you've eaten it.

I do remember it being painfully salty.

I think I remember an episode of "No Reservations" w/ Anthony Bourdain where he went to a SPAM restaurant.

I don't mind a little spam at least once every five years. It's sort of savory after the initial shock.

Tastes like salty ham. I went around eating out of a can of raw spam in high school one day. It was even "expired."

Occasionally on hiking trips we'll take along a can of spam and a few eggs and have a bit of a fry-up. Very tasty after 4-6hours hiking in the mountains :)

See, as a food to take camping, it's acceptable, it may taste like crap but it fills a need. But people eating it at home or in any kind of situation where there's an alternative? Madness.

What's next? Army digestives for best cookie ever?

It's not very good, but it's not very terrible. It just tastes like obscenely salty ham. It's not overly disgusting, it's just that people equate canned food with poverty and grossness. It's not cheap, either. That combination makes it a novelty/nostalgia food. It doesn't fry well without added fat, as it doesn't render.

It's how Scandinavians used to eat. Whatever food you can get, you prepare it to last the long, cold winters. Greenland shark isn't even edible fresh. Most traditional Icelandic cuisine is equally gross.

To be honest, though, modern Scandinavian cuisine isn't much of an improvement. Except pickled herring.

I guess I meant disgusting from a texture standpoint. The texture isn't much different than a block of lunch meat. If you find that disgusting, I don't know what to tell you.

Fair enough, my point of view is entirely on it's taste.
I'm not opposed to meat in a can, there's some very nice stews in cans (not as good as 'proper' stew of course, but still pretty nice).

IMO: Spam is only good if you fry it thinly sliced and put it on bread with mustard. The mustard tends to drown out the taste of ground up animal rectum.
