Windows cannot create the compressed folder here. Want to create it on the desktop..?

Every time I try to send something to compressed folder it gives the error.

"Windows cannot create the compressed (zipped) folder here. Do you want to create it on the desktop instead?"

NO... I want to create it right here. Why won't windows 7 let me make compressed folders anywhere but the desktop? I can't find a solution to this anywhere. I can make it and drag it back to the directory, but that's so stupid.

Also, since I installed Windows 7, my volume is really low (compared to how it was on XP) despite updating drivers, and maxing out application volume and windows speaker volume. Searching only reveals fluctuating volume errors, I'm not having this. Just low.

It's been a week and W7 has impressed me on a lot of things (ease of device installation, drivers) but It's still annoying the complete **** out of me on even more things that IMO didn't need to be changed. Hoping I will get used to it, or continue to figure out ways to change stuff to behave as before.

I haven't compressed anything in Windows 7 yet but I would recommend using a 3rd party utility (e.g: 7-Zip) to see if the issue persists.
? :)

I have the opposite problem, I can't decompress a specific archive with ANY tool I've used. Windows 7 says I can't extract files from the archive to the same volume. WTF, why not?

I've yet to encounter either of those problems. But then I've never used the default compressor, I mean why would I, it sucks giant what?
Definitely go with 7-zip.
