I finished Deus Ex today.

I love this game so much. It's pretty much one of the reasons I want a secret underground lab. Man, I love those things.

Would this work with the steam version of Deus Ex? I have no real experience with using Steam games with mods

No idea, but basically it's just another renderer (DLL) so you should be able to select it from the renderer menu without any qualms.

Then again, it's Steam so... *shrug*

There is totally a faux-HDR renderer. There's the ENB series mod, which is common for many games, but tends to be slow and buggy. While looking into the ENB mod for Vice City recently, I found another, separate DX10 renderer for Deus Ex. I'll try to find it when I get home.

You mean this ENB renderer? It seems to look the same as the DX10 one I've linked to earlier except for DX9 (which is probably what Jep needs) and some bump maps on the textures. Still neato.

I mean the DX10 renderer for Unreal, Rune and Deus Ex.

Oh, how's the retexture mod? Is it a mismatch of new and old, or did they at least stick to doing it level at a time so as to not be disruptive?

I don't really see anything wrong with the graphics.

The DX10 renderer runs like **** for me, but the DX9 renderer is nice.
I'm not a graphics whore though so I never complained, The GEP gun is even broken on 16:9 (The back of the gun doesn't show, it was never modeled), but that never stopped me playing.
It probably helps that I have a thing for the feel of older graphics like that, probably has something to do with JK being my birthday present on my 7th, and playing it since then.
E: The steam version is, as always, the exact same version as retail. So go hog wild Jep.

Its not necessarily that there is anything wrong, its more a case of being OLD. And me being a graphic designer and graphic whore... its just tough going back and appreciating stuff when I feel so detached from the visuals.

Well, a lot of the textures look nice but they clash with the outdated models. Then again, some textures that could have been very easy to retexture have been left alone and they really like to use a filter that makes everything look worn and banged with metal bars.

However, the computer screens have been recreated with care and look awesome in hi-res.

So yeah it's a mismatch but not that disruptive.

This site has a good set of instructions for applying what upgrades there are:

I've been doing my first playthrough with everything besides Shifter. It all works quite well except for DX10. DX9 works perfectly, though.

I didn't really like shifter. I thought it made the game too easy.

Shifter had some good ideas on augs but I don't generally use mods like that anyhow.

I'm really close to starting to work on my DX 'retirement project' but I'm not sure if I should make it "old-school" or try to make some use of the new graphical updates. Latter of course works better in practice but without HDTP's revised models it'd still look outdated... of course that hasn't stopped me before. :tfti:

I figure System Shock 2 is somewhat-sorta-maybe the same sort of game, so I'm going to start tommorow.

You're pretty much correct, Tibby.

System Shock 2 and Deus Ex have similar mechanics and sci-fi elements but otherwise they're quite different. I love them both (DX a bit more due to editability among other things), though.

There are some SS2 hi-res graphical updates (Emon knows more about those) and I've been meaning to replay that game (for the first time since 2001) since... 2004. Maybe one day.

Do it.

It is still pant-wettingly scary.
