TBH never even played the first...not even once

The original was the only RTS I --really-- got into, and that was mostly because of the Single Player style and story.

I played the first one like ... twice in the 1990s, once in 2004 when I meant to play through it again. Ha! *TIME!*

I played it a bit, it was fun... But by then I had already been attached to Age of Empires. So it was a meh game. 3 races? THATS ALL? Meh.

I haven't been keeping up with this at all, but is the blonde girl with the rifle in that trailer the one from the cancelled Ghost game?

Enjoy your crappy micromanagey RTS.

The commercial was cool though.

Besides the Age of Empires series, Starcraft is the only Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game that I've really enjoyed. I'll definitely be getting this.
? :)
2010-07-20, 7:17 AM #11
Yeah. I don't like Blizzard RTS games very much because of the absurd micromanagement. They're very good games but they aren't what I look for.

Won't be getting it, at least for a while/maybe forever. My computer couldn't run the beta at anywhere near an acceptable speed. Also, according to Fishstickz they really screwed up multiplayer..

Meh. Never was a big fan of Starcraft. Always enjoyed Total Annihilation and the C&C series better.

The Use Map Settings Maps selection system is so retarded beyond belief, on top of all the other stupid B.Net 2.0 changes, that I will not be buying it until they fix it or the price comes down considerably.

this. In fact "acceptable speed" might be pushing it, my laptop could barely run it at all

I do hope to play someday though...

I played the beta, only for the UMS maps.
It's amazing what can be done with it, everything from DOTA to Sidescrolling beat-em-ups.

Screwed up multiplayer? The MP server browser is fine.

Maybe someday we'll see Diablo 3, a game people actually are interested in.

Plenty of people are interested in SC2, you can take you stupid "It's gonna suck" attitude elsewhere.
2010-07-20, 12:52 PM #21
I personally never really got into Diablo... But I don't think KOP_AoEJedi meant that "it's going to suck," just that he's not as hyped up about it as we obviously are.

Yeah it is. Actually, all of the footage where the Terrans fight in that video is taken from what was supposed to be the opening cinematic for the Ghost game.

I'm actually looking forward to BlazBlue Continuum Shift on that day.

I really couldn't care less about SC2. I may [censored] it just to play the storyline, but other than that, it's just another RTS. I had the beta, it was nowhere near as memorable as SC1. Just sparkly fancy graphics and nothing special RTS gameplay.
2010-07-20, 7:53 PM #26
I played Starcraft pretty heavily, but after the beta I won't be picking this up. It has become too mathematical and over-analyzed to be any fun. There are people that break the game down literally in to fractions of a second and do the same build orders every game and have studied and practice so much that they can't be beaten by the average player. It's just not fun anymore, I don't want to study to play a ****ing video game.

I might get my hands on it for the single player, though. The ONLY way I would buy it is if a bunch of friends get it and we play LAN, but I heard they took LAN out or something. So. I guess that isn't happening.

Playing LAN with other casual people is fun, but going online is a death wish.

Also, KOP_AoEJedi, yes there were only 3 races but the beauty was in how differently each race played and counteracted each other. It was perfectly balanced, but still fun to play. Stop hating on SC2 in a thread about SC2, it's just annoying. Just, you know, don't post.
DO NOT WANT.

I can understand where a lot of the younger members never got into SC1. That was released 12 years ago. Especially with RTSs and FPSs (like DF), when you get used to a modern control scheme, older RTSs feel virtually unplayable. C&C always felt a little ahead of its time in that regard but, with regard to Blizzard RTSs, SC1 seems like the lowest (oldest) game that is still easily playable. One of these days I'm going to start the whole thing over again and finally finish the expansion.

Diablo 3, as referenced above, is coming soon. It takes me forever to get into a Diablo game but once I do, I'm hooked. One of these days I might actually get past the opening level of Diablo 2.

SC2 should be great. Maybe I will build a computer just to be able to play it. It is tempting to wait for an all in one version, though. That's what I've done with all the Blizzard titles except Diablo and WCIII. Waited for the Battle Chest.

The magic is gone. So are the low (even at the time of release) system requirments. In fact, it looks like the only thing that will stick around from the original is the hordes of idiots online who don't want to play starcraft, but some other ****ty game they made up using the editor.
2010-07-21, 5:12 AM #30
Heh, I have the Warcraft 2 battlechest. Looking forward to this, RTS's apparently aren't to everyone's taste, but when done well they are superb. There is nothing better than rolling through the enemy base with tanks and killer-robots spraying missiles indescriminately.

I remember thinking I wouldn't be able to play it very well. I broke down and bought when it was released in the Battle Chest (sometime around 1999 I guess). It ran very well on a Pentium 133 with 24 MB of RAM. I also love how Blizzard has released patches that allow for no CD play. I currently have SC, WCIII, and Diablo II all fully installed with no requirements for me to insert any of the CDs. Good stuff.

Dude that video sucks. Typical E.S. Posthumus style track with a variety of cinematically epic scenes that have almost no relation to the experience of playing the game. -_-

in preperation of sc2 I've been replaying sc1 campaign

Or, in fact, playing. I don't remember ever playing it. Because it sucks BALLS.

you can't build any good units! I've played the game for an hour and I've yet to be able to build a battle cruiser or seige tank. LAME.

I liked starcraft better when it was gritty and brutal. Like the first ever trailer of SC1, where the terran space hobos get their **** wrecked by a protoss ship. :awesome:
