Does this affect us? I'm never sure about such things.

Nope, we run OLD versions of vBulletin! ^_^

(Specifically, the article says 3.8.6, and the bottom of this page says 3.8.4. So not that old I guess.)

Ah so it does. I never noticed that!

From what I understand it's some sort of XSS flaw within the user profile page

For once, being lazy with updates actually turns out for the better!

Dunno why the BBC took off running with this flaw, vB releases security updates all the time. And as mentioned, vB released a patch for it already. They're very quick on patching that sort of stuff.

vBulletin is awful, awful software littered with bad design and usability decisions.

Name a forum software that isn't.

The last time I looked, SMF was the closest. I hate that you can't search for three letter words in almost every forum ever. And, no, CM, searches do not get exponentially slower the shorter the words. There's no excuse for it.

No, it's the index that grows exponentially larger.

And I hate SMF with a passion.
2010-07-23, 9:39 AM #12
No, it grows geometrically.

SMF is pretty terrible. I admin on an smf board, and it pretty much makes me want to shoot myself in the eye with the ink of a squid.

That does not give me confidence in the state of forum software :suicide:

I haven't checked under the hood of phpbb3 but from an administrator perspective I don't hate it. At least modifying the template wasn't a nightmare.

But it's surprisingly "stable" for how bad it's put together, which I find very odd.

There's plenty of good ones, but they're all crazy expensive.

Wanna design one in .NET?

Seriously. I've been looking for something to do.

Edit: I would say we build a forums system for -ians by -ians but I'm not writing in god-awful PHP and CM would rather drown in dog **** than operate a Windows box. :P
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I miss UBB(.classic). That's nostalgic. Pity UBB had to die. I remember being so pumped about the new versions back in like 2004 or something.

I'd help, but I'm too busy. Also, I'd use GWT.

Google Web Toolkit. It compiles Java into Javascript, has a great Eclipse plugin, support for JUnit, a Swing-like UI event model, optional netbeans/xml driven ui layout and localization, automatic resource management (e.g. it automatically compiles small images into pages and handles all of the CSS for you,) lots of built-in widgets for layout that automatically handle browser issues.... it's by far the best possible framework for web development.

I have Mono on this server, so it's more of:

"dalf would rather drown in dog **** than code for Mono implementation of ASP.net" :P

Mono fully supports ASP.NET 2.0 and it's not "half assed"
