Selecting close doesn't kill it, so I can't figure out what process it is. Malwarebytes and AVG both say I'm clean.

But really. WTF. It's some kind of invisible window or something. And even if I hit the desktop button in the bottom-right, which is supposed to minimize everything, this thing will pop up if I click the right spot.

Use task manager and kill random processes running as your user until it vanishes, then google the exe name.

Use Spy++.

Close won't kill it because close sends a window close message, it doesn't kill the process. Using the window finder thing in Spy++ you can easily find the hosting process and kill it.

It might be 'HP Wireless WAN Accessory'. Might be the window it creates to show it's notification popups instead of using the notification area features of the os. **** you, **** heads at hp.

Why does it have the Photoshop 7 icon?

It doesn't. Photoshop was open, but minimized. That's what a minimized app looks like on the win7 taskbar.

Oh I thought that was the context menu over the icon.

In that case, why are you still using Photoshop 7?

i have problems with context menus not going away all the time, the only way i've gotten them to go away is figure out what was doing it and right click it. that looks like it was one for a rightclick on a window edge and not the startbar/taskbar. try a restart?
