Help me pick a new console

Hey guys, its been a while since I've posted on here. (Damn you school and work)

So my Xbox 360 finally bit the dust today. It restarts itself right after the initial logo screen. I've also had the open tray error, so I haven't been able to use the DVD drive for months. I think my Xbox has had about every problem in the book (it got the RRoD a year ago and got it repaired by MS)

So now because of all these reliability issues, I'm starting to think I should just get the new PS3 Slim since they are reportedly more reliable. What do you guys think? Anyone have experiences with the new Xbox 360 'Slim' yet? (I've heard they are more reliable than the PS3)

Bill Gates claimed they are more reliable? That seems unlikely since he doesn't work for Microsoft anymore.

In any case, yes, they are more reliable.

Holy crap, I was reading an article from 2008. Man, do I feel stupid :(

Had the same PS3 for 3 years, still works.

Yes, the slim 360's are much, much more stable. Even when faced with an overheating situation (Which is harder to do in the first place now), it will shut itself down instead of melting down (like the PS3 will do).

Had the same 360 for 3 years, still works. Anecdotal evidence is worthless.

I've had a 360 for 5 years. I haven't had any problems that Microsoft wasn't willing to fix for free.

And yes, I hear the 360 slim is infinitely more reliable.

My Xbox 360 that I bought in 2008 is yet to red ring or anything, but I know it'll happen some day!
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I've had a PS2 for 7 years, thus the PS2 is the best console.

unless you REALLY want to play the PS3 exclusives stick with 360

games on both systems either look exactly the same or the 360 version is better (usually because of the memory situation)

We have a winner.

After objectively playing all the consoles out, I have to recommend the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

From experience, I have and like them both, though I find the PS3 had better exclusive title with the exception of Mass Effect 1 and 2 (which are my favorite games of all times).

But when it comes to games that are available on both consoles, the xbox360 almost always wins in terms of visuals. Games are more often than not designed for the 360 and then ported to the PS3. They then don't take advantage of the PS3's strengths.

I don't know if I could pick just one. Had an xbox 360 alone for several years but found my gaming experience greatly enhanced by having both.

I went with ps3 for exclusive titles and the handiness of having bluray built in.

I went with a PS3 for the better exclusives and the fact that it feels better made. :P
nope.

Sega 32X. Most advanced gaming system every made. They have this Sonic game where you can fly around and punch people in the face. Worth every damn penny.

Personally I went with an 360 a few years back because at the time Live! was making the headlines and I was interested in the online play. The PS3's version of Live! at the time was pants and online play was handled by the developers which usually resulted in it being poor.

Whether the above has changed I'm not sure, I haven't really looked at the PS3 since getting my 360, been happy with it, rented movies off it, downloaded games through it, it's done everything I want.

I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360 (bought the PS3 most recently), I hardly ever touch the PS3.

I'm kinda the other way round. I had all 3 consoles, and my 360 was the the least played by miles.... and then one day when I booted it up to play an old rpg I never quite finished and it RROD'd.
Couldn't be bothered fixing it so I just trashed it.

bah, I could rip the ps3 controller in 2 peices with my bare heads. I could throw a 360 controller through a car windshield and it would still work.

But I suggest ditching consoles and just build a game computer.

I don't see how that's relevant to what Baconfish said. I do prefer the 360 controller though, it fits the hands better and is MUCH better for playing fps', not that I play fps' on consoles much...

It's relevant because he thinks it "feels better made" and I think it feels cheap.... but I'm stating why

I know exactly what you were saying, I was implying that you being able to smash a controller does not make the console cheaply made...

I've got an original X360 from 2007. Repaired an RRoD, works fine other than that. Slim PS3, no problems. Have had it freeze once or twice from netflix for some reason though. and Wii, from release, without ever having an issue. Even though many release wii consoles had issues with SSBB.

So yeah, I'd support your PS3 choice.

I'll admit that the controller feels a little flimsier [though I find it comfier, even with my shovel hands], but I meant the actual console. Also the UI isn't crap. :P
nope.

They did? I never knew that!
Guess I got lucky too, got my Wii on release and had no SSBB troubles.

Yeah there were quite a few thousand consoles who couldn't read the SSBB disc for some reason. It was some firmware issue that was later resolved but you had to connect it to a network to get it (since it couldn't get it from the disc.)

Not sure how they dropped the ball on that one. Maybe they switched drive manufacturers early on and forgot to make the necessary adjustments.
