These are a couple problems I assume are caused by chrome as I can't get them to happen in firefox.

Since a week or two ago, google images has changed in to a terrible format that I don't like and I want it back to normal. Does anyone know how to change the picture searches format back to normal?

Second, when youtube videos end they now go to whatever random video they feel like that might have been related, without me clicking anything at all like it's a playlist. How the hell do I stop this?

I've noticed those too, though I like the new image search format.

Not Chrome specific. Google just rolled out the new Google Image Search.

I don't see why you don't like it, but I think there's an option at the bottom to go back to the old format. The new one is vastly superior though.

Confirmed, not chrome specific.

Sorry. :(

I absolutely love the new google image format, I think it's improved dramatically.
As CM said, that's the new format, it's not a chrome thing.
I've never encountered the youtube thing though, sounds like it's a setting in your youtube profile or something, not sure

I don't like that chrome doesn't have a built in rss reader. And the youtube thing I think is your preferences, it sounds like it is just autoplaying it's "playlist"

The YouTube thing just sounds like you've got autoplay turned on. If there's a little pop-up menu at the bottom of your screen there'll be a toggle on there (top right) to switch it off.

Why not use Google Reader? There's nothing that can compete with that IMO.

Absolutely agree with CM. Even when I was using firefox I still preferred google reader over a rss plugin.
(though I do have a google reader plugin, simply shows how many unread you have and opens the page when you click on it)

Youtube only does that when you click on one of the "recommended videos for you" on the front page. You can turn the autoplay for it off though, like Livid said.

vastly inferior... omg i had to click through multiple pages... at least the images on those pages where arranged in an easy to skim through grid and didn't look like a cluttered mess

next thing you know they'll go all "image cloud" on us

but yeah "switch to basic version" is the link you want... they need to move the link to the sidebar or make it something you can set in your preferences

What good is it being in a grid? I don't see any benefit.

The Youtube underbar thing has a little button to turn off autoplay. I'm not sure what the recommended things do with it, but I know it autoplays automatically for your subscriptions.
nope.

I hate the new image search. And the switch back to normal button doesn't retain the change if you open a new page

Just find a pron dump site that's updated regularly.

because an evenly spaced grid is quicker and more efficient to skim through even with clicking through multiple pages than an uneven cluster**** of images

How does a grid make it any easier to skim? For skimming you'd want to have as much content on one page as possible, which is what that allows. Also, they added rollovers and such as well, making it even more useful for skimming without having to click through everything. It's not like this is a table of data that you would want aligned to a grid. It's just a bunch of images, most of which aren't even exactly the same size, and have little to no correlation with eachother.

Still going with "I HATE CHANGE" as the real reason.

Maybe other people just find it easier to find images when they're in the old grid format rather than what looks like a horrid version of Where's Wally?
nope.

I'm not that keen on it because it's so busy. :P

Also it seems to make my laptop crap out every so often. :/
nope.

Busy? It has less information.

It appears I cannot drag an image out of a website into my graphics editing program, which annoys me :|

i like change when it's not retarded...

fairly recent changes i've had any (even minor) complaints about

youtube... i only complained about a few nitpicky things at first
head-fi... they went from vbulletin to some mess that is very much broken

Head-Fi uses Huddler.

You know Jim, Google has usability experts. They do usability research, studies and testing. It's likely they wouldn't roll out a change if their tests indicated it wasn't good for their general audience. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's not good.

If they have usability experts I think they were drunk when they made Wave. :P
nope.
2010-08-05, 9:43 AM #27
My point is only that Google tends to know what they're doing. Jumping "WAA NOT USABLE" at the first change is silly.

Google Wave was still way in beta and more of an experiment. I doubt they dedicated much time to it.

Yeah, ESPECIALLY for one of their most used services.

The only difference I see, the old images would display name, size, website and a link. Now it just displays all the images with multiple pages. It's great, you can see more images at one time. But I noticed in IE it doesn't show the new image search results page.

There are extensions. Personally I like Google Reader as CM said.
