Anyone actually go to see it yet besides me?

All I gotta say is I loved the frickin music. Kind of made me wish I was a better musician. I walked out of the theater wanting to pick up my bass and start a band finally, lol.

My next purchases are both the soundtrack and the score for that movie. Also... The actual film wasn't that bad either.

Saw it last night, and I will be seeing it again. I had heard negative reviews and so wasn't expecting much, but I was very very pleasantly surprised. The comedy was timed so well, and the indie/hipster/whatever vibe wasn't nearly as strong as in something like Nick and Nora. The whole 8-bit retro gaming fad never really caught on with me but it wasn't prominent enough here to annoy me.

If anything I'd say they're somewhat sarcastic about the indie thing. They make fun of vegans.

So all in all: Not a hipster, still liked it.

I'm actually pretty excited to see it after watching the trailers and whatnot. Luckily I come from a place that doesn't really have hipsters. :P
nope.

What about the PSN/XBLA game (XBLA comes out in like, 10 days)? It looks really good as well!

Not a hipster, but I love the movie. It's a movie that's definitely tailored for the gamers like me. The editing was great and the dialogue was witty. What's surprising was how well executed the fight scenes were (no shaky cams!). I would give it a 8/10.

As for the game, it's a successor to River City Ransom so that already makes the game great. A simple beat em up that features some RPG elements that's best played with some friends (it's incredibly hard if you play it single player). Unfortunately, the game is mired with a lack of online co-op and some glitches. Otherwise, the game would be better. 7.5/10

Never heard of this. I've been meaning to skim apple.com for new trailers.

Never mind. Poster looks dumb.

Heaven forbid the poster looks dumb. Even I have the sense to judge a movie on more than that. At least with Avatar I judged it on its trailer.

First movie I've seen that used a Zelda remix in the soundtrack.

I was teasing a bit. A guy playing the guitar didn't interest me is all.

Well, I absolutely despise the hipster/indie scene. That aside the movie was pretty good. it was quite entertaining and well placed humor for the most part. But god damn do I hate hipsters.

They actually wrote nintendo to use the real theme. But what they did to the Universal Studios logo was greal. I was laughing before the movie even started.

I'm not sure what you call it but "retro-ness" is beginning to make me cringe. Before, if I saw something dedicated to "pixel art" or that era, I would think that it's was neat in a way. Now, I'm finding myself more often than not displeased seeing any new indie game splattered in a 8-bit/16-bit pixel art direction, listening to something re-orchestrated with beeps-and-boops, or a watching some form of media involving horrible-animated sprites.

What gives. I'm guessing all the kids who grew in the 8-bit/16-era can't let the bittersweet nostalgia go? Why this huge influx?

Hipsters, ECHOMAN.

This movie isn't for the people playing video games in the 8/16-bit era, it's for people who act like it's cool now because it was uncool then.

I went and saw it. I thought it sucked. Kieran Culkin was the only interesting part of the film, with the only exception to that being how hot Mary Elizabeth Winstead is.

Agreed. The fake "eturnal sunshine of the spotless mind" gag was good and all for like 5 seconds. I dont care about the game at all. It holds no REAL ties to 8-big gaming. Yah Im sure Michle Sera was there playing zelda as a sperm in the 80's to understand all these refrences that all the other 14 year olds live by this week. And as far as Im concerned throwing some power chords and some major scales does not make you a talented musician. Nor dose impress me as far as music goes at all. I hate this Wall-mart music trend now. :suicide:

Furthermore, I know this will upset some people, but I HATED shawn of the dead. Dont like the director, or his movies, dont like the actors and their movies. Though I will researve judgment on that show "Spaced" including the Brit-Comedy Duo.

This movie can only be hipster if someone's parents paid for the production. Also, the director and producer must have received degrees from liberal arts colleges after failing high school chemistry.

It must also feature cheap beer (ie pabst, natty lite) and expensive cigarettes (luckies, kamel) to be hipster.

You people are so ****ing clueless and uncultured. I look down on you with my perfectly unkempt hair. Savages.

I honestly see absolutely nothing that makes this a hipster flick. Indie rock? Sure. Then again, hipsters to me are pretentious dbags.

Either way, I thought it was hilarious. The comedy is timed perfectly, the visuals are amazing, and the music is great. I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe.

Admittedly, I was expecting the movie to be 'okay.' Edgar Wright is awesome, but i wasnt sure they could pull off the videogame feel but they totally did. Sure it will go over some peoples heads, but it was a total nostalgia rush for me.

also, music

I've seen many articles like that on various websites. People being baffled that this movie has bombed completely. It's not really fair to the movie, which I understand is really quite good, but have cinema writers really resorted to begging their readers to go see films because they're new and original? Being new an original isn't always the best thing in the world. You've got to actually offer something that people want to see. In the case of Scott Pilgrim, I think it's probably too new and original for people to be interested in. It doesn't have a single actor who can draw people to theaters based on name or face recognition. If anything it has the opposite with Michael Cera. Maybe it's just too outside the box with its execution and people think "what in the hell is this, a guy who has to kill his girlfriend's ex boyfriends before he can date her?" I mean. It doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

I've heard people say that it shouldn't have opened against the movies it did. That's nonsense. The movies it opened against haven't done extremely well either. I just don't think anyone is interested in this movie.

I have not seen the movie yet. It might be entertaining, it might even be good. I won't know until I throw it on my netflix list. However, I have a personal distaste for any movie whose plot is intentionally stupid. I'm sure it is new, original, different, whatever you want to call it...but I just don't enjoy movies whose premise is intentionally ridiculous AND whose presentation is equally intentionally ridiculous. Again, that's not to judge the actual quality of the movie, it's just an issue of appeal to me, personally. I suspect that this is true of a lot of people, though, in light of its poor performance, especially when that "quirky" and "original" presentation only appeals to a small subset of its target audience on a GOOD day.
