Quote:
Speaking about what will be included, Lucas said, "They'll be different kinds of additional material," adding, "I think you've seen enough behind the scenes [material] for a lifetime. There's some really good material that will be included in there, [including] more deleted scenes that you haven't seen yet." Lucas said these newly released scenes would be kept separate from the film itself.

Looks like it will be released Fall of 2011 though, so don't get too excited yet.

As long as he releases the original versions too, or at least the re-mastered ones from the 90's, I'm good.
2010-08-14, 4:08 PM #6
Does this mean I'll have to buy the OT for a fourth time?

2010-08-14, 4:21 PM #7
Now the question is, is Lucas going to make any more changes? Especially to the infamous cantina scene?
2010-08-14, 4:26 PM #8
I'd like to see the original versions released on blu-ray...assuming it's possible anyway.

Didn't they say that SW would never be released in HD? I guess it's a good thing I haven't actually bought the DVD set yet..

i'd like to know when they would have said that... considering it's been on HD broadcasts for some time now

i believe there was something said during the format war about SW not being released until one of the HD formats is in more homes

This is stupid. Countless movies have been released on bluray after having been available on dvd, vhs, laserdisc etc...

If Star Wars gets released on a new format, it's because Lucas is greedy. There are dozens upon dozens of movies that have been released multiple times in different versions on each format, but people only ***** about Star Wars because: 1. They're morons. 2. They're butthurt because Lucasfilm didn't release the version they wanted.

What are you talking about changed his mind? He never said Star Wars wouldn't be in high def to begin with. It's already been pointed out that he said they'd wait until there was a more solid HD standard.

I mean jesus, Lucas is one of the biggest supporters of high def out there.

Lucas did say that SW would never again be released in it's "original" form when a certain VHS version was released. Oddly, that can still be considered truthful as the "original" versions displayed probably have never seen another format. So, what he said was true, from a certain point of view.

Someone mentioned changes:

Yes. The biggest change I believe is the replacement of fugly-puppet-Yoda from Episode 1 with the digital Yoda that looks more like the Yoda they used in EPs II and III.

I like that, it's a small scene and adds little, but it does add something. Better then "Oh my god CGI aliens in your face holy crap"

I'm pretty sure that scene was already released in the novelization of Shadows of the Empire.

I don't think I stand alone when I say this should have happened a long time ago. There is no reason why we can't have more changes that make sense.

EDIT: Furthermore, I don't think people would be so pissed if they made changes that were sensible. Then again, people get pissed off about the sensible changes that have been made, so maybe I'm wrong.

changes i'd accept in the OT (while still keeping most of the SE crap)
get the colors right this time... especially the saber colors
get hayden out of rotj
bring back vaders "bring my shuttle" line in ESB (the line they replaced it with was some unused audio from ANH and the original line had a more pissed off tone)
either bring back boba fett's original audio or have temuera morrison redo those lines...
please for the love of all that is holy remove the ****ty song from jabba's palace
han shoots first

The song from Jabba's palace and Han shooting second are the only things that really bug me.

A number of those dialogue changes were because the original masters that had that piece of audio on them had degraded, so they used an alternate take.

Though I do agree that fixing the colour timing is something that is desperately needed.

Also, changing the song in RotJ in jabba's palace will mean either redoing the entire song sequence (due to the fact that it was properly lip-synced), or going back to the old puppets that could barely even move.

Why did it take so long for Lucas to release that Return of the Jedi deleted scene?

I remember me and my friend Corey ****ting ourselves when we heard LAME ASS JANGO FETT Instead of the old skool diabolical Boba voice. Oh my Lord, Way to kill it george lucaas. But thats not where it ends, oh no where dose the rabbit hole lead might you ask? To ****ing Hayden Christenson. Yep, i though sir alec guinness would never have to share the screen with him. Believeing that death would do tha trick. But no. Yet hayden unwittingly tarnishes the record of the film vett. And then to put in that "fake" (for all intensive perpouses) Yoda? No no no, not my Triligy Georgie, not this time.

Why does that contain a shot from ESB?

on the subject of scene swapping, lucas really needs to remove the awful continuity error which was created by putting a deleted scene from RotJ where vader lands on the death star into ESB then having Moff Jejerrod greeting him back to the Executor. Even if they keep the RotJ hangar and cut it before vader gets greeted it would be an improvement.

You know, guys, it's a good thing that there are tons of movies that are better than the Star Wars sextet, and whose authors don't believe going back to insert any new fad into their old work is a good idea.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

meh, i'm not wholly against it. Some of them really are improvements. A lot of the dodgy effects were fixed (see http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-one.html ) but some of the changes are rather pointless.
