So I'm doing this fantasy football thing at work. I don't know the first thing about football. So I'm going to crowd source my draft to you guys!

So who should I pick?

Try your best to get Adrian Peterson at HB. That's really all that matters.

Lee Evans is the key to any successful fantasy football team.

Here are some tips for first time players

1. Keep track of Bye weeks. You don't want all your players to have the same week off and then suddenly you have to start dropping big name players just to pick up available players who happen to be playing that week

2. Keep track of the end of the season. Good players from the best teams most likely won't be playing at the end of the season, which is usually when fantasy football playoffs start or have started. Don't be surprised to have your top players not even playing those games

3. Quarterbacks are a dime a dozen this year. If you don't have a shot at Manning, Brees, or Rodgers, don't waste your early picks on QBs. Stock up on running backs (especially if you get points for carries / 10yds = 1pt) and wide receivers. If you aren't getting a top 3 QB, the rest are all pretty close to each other, not a whole lot of variation, and not worth wasting an early pick. You are going to win games through your RBs and your WRs, often not even your primary ones. With your top QB, top RB, and top WR, you are somewhat expecting them to do well all the time. But it's the 2nd RB, the 2nd and 3rd WR, and usually a WR/RB slot choice that will be winning you games, those are the guys that will put you over the edge, not give you the instant win.

4. When looking for players, I'd say you are much safer more often than not drafting based on player potential, not team potential. A lot of people draft players cuz they are on a "good team", but that really doesn't matter much for fantasy. I remember when Dallas used to suck ass they still were a top 3 fantasy defense cuz of all the turnovers they created, TD returns, etc, so they were an awesome pick. So if you are coming down to two players, check last years performance, see how many pts they put up, and go with them.

5. Yes, get Chris Johnson

If you need some help during your draft or whatever, do not fret to ask! I love fantasy football! In 3 or 4 leagues this year myself

That's one school of thought. The other is to make sure all your players have the same week off. You're certain to lose that week, but you get the benefit of having your lineup at full strength (barring injuries) the rest of the year.

This is, at least, better advice than I gave in my previous post.

Buck, why would you put Aaron Rodgers in the same list as Manning and Brees?

Content and not making fun of buck's QB: Fantasy Football is also time consuming. If you have a **** load of things to do, I would honestly drop it. Usually you have to make your picks in by Friday or Sat. Some leagues will wait until 1hr before the 1st game. This is REALLY IMPORTANT TO KNOW towards the tail end of the season when games are played on Thursdays and Saturdays. "Not Sunday" games usually start after Thanksgiving. I've gotten burned on not setting up my line-up because there was a Thursday game. Also, pay attention to injury reports religiously. Football is a rough sport and players get injured. If your 3rd WR is out because he got JAK'D UP (I miss that segment BTW), you need to replace him with a sub or pick up another player. Like I said, just to have a passing chance, you need to be on the up and up. You're gonna know a lot of football real quick.

Dirty truth: You're gonna suck balls your first season unless you get ridiculously lucky with your picks. Might as well accept it.

Um, because multiple fantasy sites like this or even NFL.COM have him listed as the NUMBER 1 QB point wise this year and because he had pretty similar stats to Manning, Brady, and Brees last year (with Brees more standing in the league of his own). He was the #2 QB pointwise last year, beating Manning?

I think those are good reasons, considering their offense will be even better this year since Jermichael Finley is an absolute stud. He may not be a top 3 QB (although I think he easily is with Manning an dBrees), but he is a top 3 FANTASY qb easy. Get up on your fantasy stats DALF!

Could anyone explain football in very simple terms to me, a stupid person? Maximum of 10 words, no words more than 2 syllables. :downs:

Yeah but this happens in soccer, basketball and hockey (the non-ice version) as well

That's why I don't like a lot of popular sports. There's no imagination to the core of the game, just variations on a theme.

Also - I'm not playing. Not enough people signed up for the league.

SO THANKS ANYWAY.

I was just going to draft the entire Packers team anyway. GO PACKERS.

Yeah, but most things can be simplified like that.

Dodgeball is just hitting people with ****.
Parkour is just guys jumping over ****.
Lifting weights it just... lighting weight.
Car, truck, and motorbike racing is the same as gun shooting - using combustion to move a piece of metal really fast.
Boxing and MMA are just two guys beating each other until one falls down.

Why would you say that? Rodgers was among the top fantasy (and real life) quarterbacks last season. I agree that he is not the best choice for the first 5 or so picks in the first round, but if you have a later pick and he is still available (Manning, Brees and Brady already picked) you would be foolish not to grab him.

Im thinkin a 12 team league, anyone takes Rodgers with their first round pick has wasted their pick when they could have had someone better... THIS year.

I felt the same way about Matt Forte last year, though it pained me to feel that way. I seem to remember him being 2nd to only Adrian Peterson on most "expert" draft boards.

Not happy with my keepers this year. Peyton Manning, DeAngelo Williams and Anquan Boldin are good players, but I doubt they'd all go in the first three rounds of a normal draft, and the best of them is probably a late first-rounder.

There's a difference. Matt Forte wasn't the #1, #2, or #3 fantasy player the year before 2009. Yeah he had good total yardage, but only 12 or so TDs. Peterson, DeAngeolo Williams, Michael Turner absolutely destroyed him fantasy wise, and there were 4-5 others who were right there with him as well in 2008. Aaron Rodgers was a fantasy stud last year, there isn't anyway you can try and argue it. I agree that in the first round it IS a bad pick, you'd be much better off drafting RBs and WRs as week in week out they matter more. But someone drafting arguably the best fantasy QB in the league isn't a choice that will get you "burned" per say, you just better have a realistic RB situation figured out come draft time. You'll be hard pressed to find players that score more fantasy points than Rodgers. In fact, I think the only player who scored more than Rodgers last year was probably Chris Johnson. I know on NFL.com scoring Rodgers absolutely DECIMATED everyone else, along with Johnson. We're talking beating Manning, Brees, and Favre by 40 and they were the #2,3, and 4

Matt Forte was ranked so high last year because of potential. Rodgers has already proved himself to be a top fantasy player. But yes, strategy wise, I still wouldn't pick him in the first round probably.
