I need a new motherboard

You guys know about computers.

My hard drive died a while ago and I had to get a new one. Ever since I got the new one, my computer's been acting funny, not detecting the new hard drive unless I jiggle the SATA cable around in the motherboard port, glitching out and restarting the computer, etc. Games and other data take forever to load, weird glitches in several programs.

Anyway, right now I have a core 2 duo CPU and a 4870. 2 sticks of RAM. I'll want to update this in the future, probably. What's a good bet for a new motherboard? I'll probably be getting a new CPU also, if that makes a difference.

Yeah but is your ram DDR2 or DDR3? Most Core 2 Duo systems were DDR2. All the newer sockets 1156/1366/AM3 use DDR3 so an upgrade might cost you a little more than you planned.

Newegg is having some great deals right now-

A smart move might be to replace your current motherboard with something similar (~$50), then sell the whole computer when your ready to build something completely new.

I have a P7P55D, great board if you plan on upgrading.
