Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta

So has anyone been trying out the Final Fantasy XIV beta over the weekend?

I'm just trying to get some insight on how the game is. Any thoughts and opinions?

When are they going to stop making these games? Don't they realize they suck now?
DO NOT WANT.

As long as chumps keep paying for them they'll keep making them. Damn shame too.
I remember when the Final Fantasy label meant something

I like Final Fantasy as much as the next guy, but ever since Squaresoft 'acquired' Enix, the FF series has been awful. I don't know what poison they brought in from Enix, but it's garbage.

I didn't like 11 (but that's mostly because I don't like the standard formula for MMOs), I didn't like 12, I didn't bother with 13, and I probably won't bother with this one. The last enjoyable Final Fantasy, was 10. Which was still Squaresoft.

FF11 was okay.

FF14 is GODDAMN AWFUL. It is basically like as if they took FF13 and tried to add multiplayer to it. Tons of cutscenes (that you can't skip), absolutely atrocious combat with tons of lag, horrible control schemes, classes are picked for crafting instead of any character being able to learn, etc. They took everything that made FF11 manageable as an MMO and removed it.

Literally the ONLY good thing about this game is the graphics. I played 30 minutes of it and I am already sick of it.

You know, seriously, I would be more happy with it if it were just a goddamn movie.

Even then, 10 wasn't brilliant.

I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

I didn't like it because it was the most boring MMO ever to have existed.

You have not played EVE.

Touché

I should say the second most boring MMO

I tried it but it's so hard to understand what's going on

PERSONAL OPINION: And since the UI was made for consoles, it is so frustrating trying to do anything because there is a menu for everything. I also cannot assign hotkeys for common menus and the game mouse is horrible, adding to the menu problem.

It's really not boring when you are amongst 100 ship fleets laying fire on a player owned star base and any resistance.. it may just be a little laggy :p

100? I'd call that boring. It needs to be 500 vs 500 at least.

Also, what about the other 95% of the time when you aren't fighting huge fleet battles? :P
2010-09-09, 10:24 AM #18
Of course, you just can't have 500 people in one fleet channel.

The other 95% of the time I'm buying stuff or mining/planet harvesting.. but I guess a lot of the fun is just chatting with the people you play with. If you don't get involved it could get pretty boring.

Not a fan. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out by the first expansion like they did with FFXI, which was equally atrocious at launch.

I read the game encourages you to play only one hour a day or else your character suffers from fatigue and you gain even less experience?

That won't ever be an issue.

This mechanic of the game is great because this is never communicated to you throughout the entire beginning of the game, nor is there a notification when this takes place.

I have been staying out of the open beta, mostly cause I have been in since the first wave of alpha testers.
