THX-1138 On Blu-Ray

First off, I loved THX. I thought it was one of the best movies Lucas has ever done. The original was moody, deep, and above all else facinating. Though Im wholeheartedly against the revision of the original trilogy, I Loved the "Directors Cut" release of THX 1138. Even with that weird C3-PO lookalike. It was still pretty awesome. This review, I obviously dissagree with. Its just bashing the new cut. Its what inspired me to post this thread.

:psyduck: http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s3295thx.html :psyduck:

On the movie itself. I think that there are alot of undertones and alot of inferences that one can make upon even a first viewing. The agenda's of LUH and SEN, were made all the more complex with the Directors Cut's added sceans in the start of the picture of the too shareing meaningful looks. The original depicted a slow lonesome escape of THX while the Directors Cut was a fast pase race of cars of every size and shape. All in all, I cannot find a downfall in this movie. What dose Massassi think of THX 1138?

Love it, though I only know the remake.

You do have to be in the right mood to watch it, though. And that only happens about every ten years for me.

When Ridley Scott does a director's cut: :awesome: :omg: :neckbeard:

I'm with Brian. I really really want to love this movie (maybe it's a case of "his earlier work was so much better"), but gawd I was streaming it on Netflix and I turned it off. :/

Ridley Scott's New Alien cut was deacent.

All I know is that I Hope they never make a Raiders of the lost ark remake.

They'll never remake or edit that movie other than corrections that have already been made.

Yep. I think I had the remastered version, it's been years since I tried watching it. I'm almost curious about trying it again. . . but to lazy to try.
My blawgh.

It must have been streaming for me too, now that I think about it. I don't know what version that was.

As long as Spielburg and Lucas are alive, I can't see someone trying to remake these films. Then again...I have heard rumors of some Jaws remake.

Never seen it. Worth the time?

That's where I was a year or so ago. Yeah, it's worth the time just to say you saw it. Considering that we are all, to some extent, fans of Lucas' work, I think it is worth a shot. I saw the "special edition". I don't think it's all that great, which probably means it's way ahead of the original.

Should I feel bad that I've never heard of it? >_>

One of my favorite movies. It's a bit slow in the 2001 sort of way, but it's well worth the investment. I think the THX universe would be great for a serialized show.

Contrary to the Special Editions of the Star Wars Trilogy, I really liked what George Lucas did with THX-1138 when he went back and re-edited it and redid all the special effects. I though that none of the new effects were intrusive in any way, and they really served to make the plot more understandable.

Completely agreed, EXCEPT I preferred not to think of Deckard as a replicant. The latest cut is PERFECT in every other way, imo, but the removal of ambiguity does annoy me.

I was thinking specifically of Aliens. But all the cuts of Blade Runner are good, none of them are bad. Unlike Star Wars.

I've never seen it because frankly I don't really rate Lucas whatsoever as a director.
nope.

He directed A New Hope, which is pretty decent. He may not be great but he's at least a capable director. He's a terrible writer, though. The only reason ANH was good is because his wife edited it.

Yeah but A New Hope is still miles behind ESB and ROTJ.

And lets not even mention the prequels. :P
nope.

What prequels?

The word was that Ford botched the narration on purpose hoping they'd trash it.

Also, he didn't actually write the novelization, either. Alan Dean Foster did, but they but GL's name on the books.

Didn't like Blade Runner, didn't like THX 1138, saw both on streaming.

That's right. Deal with it. :colbert:

The greatest achievement in director's cuts is Kingdom of Heaven. You will never see a greater increase in quality between a director's cut and a theatrical release.
