The game may end up being good, but seriously? Couldn't they thought of a line other than "I...am a space marine" considering how many space marine games there are these days?

The people who even bring up the similarities between starcraft and warhammer should be shot. They're similar because starcraft is warhammer. They lost the license at the last moment and instead of throwing the game away they changed the names of everything and added random dodads to a few units.

Source? It's not that I don't believe you, just never heard that before.

[edit- Wikipedia has no mention. In fact, it talks about how it was originally based on Warcraft II and only after lackluster "warcraft in space" complaints did they completely revamp everything, creating the three distinct races. So... source?]

I don't know a lot about Warhammer, but if Starcraft was supposed to be warhammer, then...wouldn't there be...spaceorcs?

Remember they ARE the original space marines, before DOOM even existed. Asking them to be original is pretty retarded, when they started the whole trend.

Oh neat, Warhammer 40K is older than Starship Troopers? That's pretty old.

Actually, that happened with Warcraft losing the Warhammer fantasy license at the last minute. They just continued with that trend with Starcraft.

1987. I'm not entirely certain about Starship Trooper. You may have a point there.

The Trooper book was from the 50s.
Still, 40k is definitely older then Starcraft.

I was just being a dick, I'd say it's reasonable to say that while there may have been many literary influences leading up to it, Warhammer and 40K are the grandfather of orc/spacemarine/knight strategy games. :)

Am I the only one who thinks all of the characters look stupid? Big huge guys in space suits with capes and furs and laser cannons and POINTY STICKS
2010-09-21, 3:08 PM #34
Every space marine game has characters that look like a bunch of wads.
nope.

Are you kidding? What possible use could you have for a sword in a sci-fi setting?

And chainsaw swords? Wow that's dumb. What next? Putting a rifle on them?

That's hilarious. I'll bet whomever owns the Warhammer license hates themselves now.

You aren't alone. It looks too busy, to overdone. It reminds me of when I would to play Lego's with my friends. I would always mix every genera of Lego's together to make my main character. Looking back they just looked like big guys in space suits with capes furs and laser cannons and POINTY STICKS.
My blawgh.

The chain swords in 40k are like...vibrating ridiculously fast so it's like a vibro sword or something.
Basically it cuts through things bullets won't penetrate, which is why they use them.
