securerom came up with a cute little thing.

i'm copying my nwn:HotU cdrom because i want to keep the orginal intact. i have an 52x cdrom and it does have me tad worried about cracking in cdroms afterall some of them are quite old so i promptly made copies and put my orginal in a security box, then i tried my NWN:HotU copy and guess what those ********** at securerom came up with a cute new little item.

i put in my HotU cdrom the copy, then i click on play on the nwn menu to play the game...

then i got this cute little dialong.

"Unable to authenticate orginal disc within time limit." press retry or cancel

i press retry then a few morment later

"Please insert the orginal disc instead of a backup. see www.securom.com/copy for more details." press OK


anyway i need help destroying this ******* piece of ****ing ****.

Well... that kinda defeats the purpose if having a backup disk if you cant use it.

yup therefore that's the reason why i was pissed.


anyway i downloaded alcohol 120% and i set it to 1:1 slow read at 1x took about 2 hours to read though but it finally created an image, didn't work right so i setup the emulation option and turned on everything and now its appearing to work so i think i defeated the copy protection thing atleast for the disk image so i guess its time to slow burn at 1x an backup copy of that cdrom then i'll be on my way.

What makes me sad, is that if people weren't so desperate to steal games, protection like this wouldn't be necessary. It makes me sad that someone who has a legitimate reason to use a backup copy is prevented because of copy protection.
