small issues with jedi knight

hi to everyone

....I decided to re-install jedi knight and after playing for a while I noticed a bunch of white dots on the screen, displayed in a grid, one on each side of the screen. this only seems to happen if I have the crosshair enabled. I can post a pic of it if necessary

Also, the video cutscenes sometimes goes completely black during playback, or a bunch of "black squares" appear on screen

I know that these aren't very big issues but is there a way to fix them ?

my specs:
Windows XP SP3
E8400 @ 3ghz
8800gts
4GB RAM

I don't know what the crosshair does, but I had to disable it entirely to stop JK crashing on XP with an 8200GT or 8600GT or thereabouts.

seems like this game uses the crosshair from hell:rolleyes:

by the way, is the steam version of J.K. any different or did they just took the game and dump it there ?

I don't know if it's addressed there but did you check the sticky?

hmmm I don't anything releated to my issues in there. I tried that ddraw.dll file and I don't see any differences...in fact I don't think it did anything at all.

It only works if you have 3D acceleration enabled, try that.

I am using 3D acceleration enabled (at 800x600x16), but still no differences...

I think if you install the unofficial patch over at www.jkhub.net it fixes it... I used to have that issue but not anymore

anything higher than 800x600 on that game makes the HUD too small....I can barely see my HP and shields. It's annoying

I already tried the ddraw.dll file. I put it in my JK folder, turned 3d accelaration ON but it doesn't change anything

for some reason if I try to take a screen shot, I either get the crosshair alone, or no crosshair but all the dots

no not ddraw the unofficial patch try this: http://www.jkhub.net/project/show.php?projid=292

I think that will fix it... not 100% though, I can't remember what I had to do to get arid of those lines... I had the same issue

yay it works! the white dots are gone!!

now all the remains is the issue with the FMV, but I assume it was something to do with the video player or the way the videos were encoded? but it's not that big of a deal.

thanks Andrew L and everybody else too :)

^ I never realized what the hell that thing was until I played tie fighter. Then I came to loathe them.

It was only about ~2 years ago I learned that damn thing was a ship. Before that, I just thought it was a docking structure or something

Glad it worked

the vidoes is a common problem with newer systems... have you tried running it in windowed mode? I have Windows 7x64 and it works in windowed mode perfectly fine

the videos are coded in Smacker if that makes a difference...
