Internet Explorer 9 Beta

Has anyone else tried it? I must say, it's surprisingly okay. It hasnt been murdering websites either! It's pretty quick and doesn't feel clunky anymore and tabs work how they should.

Font rendering is actually pretty awesome as well.

I doubt I'll end up using it exclusively, but it's certainly an improvement. More at engadget:

looks pretty slick

I will have to try it out when I go home... still rocking IE 6 at work...

I have IE8 at home and I really liked the feature that showed all the tabs in another window pretty cool

Not going to try the beta, I've heard bad things about it fouling up Windows installations.

IE is dead to me.*

So you're still using XP and thus can't use IE 9 anyway. :P

IE9 is pretty fantastic. It renders and feels faster than anything else due to GPU acceleration. Font rendering is amazing and I can't believe it took until 2010 to get something that looks correct. Except for Safari, but no one cares about Safari.

I haven't really kept up with it's development... are they planning on building better support for extensions? IE has been extensible for over a decade, but it's not as easy as writing extensions for Chrome or FF, and extensions are the killer feature these days. The browser quickly stagnates between updates without community extensions.

The font rendering bugged the hell out of me for a little while (cause it was different), but after getting used to it, it's pretty awesome.

Anyone else think the font rendering in Firefox 4 is pretty abysmal with GPU rendering?

I'm not sure I noticed a difference

IE would have to do something pretty severe to get me to convert.

I agree Deadman, but it'll definitely make my life as a web developer much easier. It doesnt look like ill have those days where IE just ruins everything.

Make sure GPU rendering is on, because from what I can tell, it's EXTREMELY obvious. It makes everything look off, and bold.

Because Vista/7 have built in update and you don't need IE.

Because the last time Windows Update was browser-based was XP, so if you have to use IE for Windows Update, it's safe to assume you're using XP. IE 9 is Vista/7 only.

I'm trying it out now. I do like it, but it's a little buggy ... some pages randomly take like 5 seconds to start loading (just shows a white screen for 5 seconds then appears to send the request and start fetching data...)

Hey remember when the IE team released a version that actually conformed to the HTML standard, and then everyone *****ed that it broke their websites, because none of the websites used standard html? So the IE team had to fix their browser by breaking it? Good times.

The updates are cool, but I'm just happy to see Microsoft make a pointed effort to encourage people to upgrade. One of the sites I built for a friend still has more IE5/6 users than anything else :-/.

Of course my main PC is Win7, but I'm always knee deep in older computers. :) Didn't know IE9 dropped support XP. I find it amusing Firefox 3.6 provides better features and performance for legacy OS's than Microsoft does.

Netscape 3.6 has CSS3, HTML5, GPU acceleration and a usable interface? Or do you mean Firefox?

Yeah Firefox. Doesnt really matter to me if IE9 supports all those features, if it cant support Win2k or XP.
