To Be Or Not To Be? Lord of The Rings Online
2010-09-23, 4:02 PM #1
So, I spent 2 and a half days for LOTRO to download. I decided to give it a shot, simply because its free. I though it would be akin to W.O.W. therefore I was not expecting much. Well, that turned out to be an accuret assesment. I played it for a total of 2 min and shut it off. I'm now contomplating wether or not to just deleat it and save space, or keep it incase I for some rason want to invest all my time and effort into a game genra that is fruitless anaway.

The little enjoyment I got out of it at all was the obscure Lord of the Rings stuff. They had an option for instance, that let you choose where your elf comes from. So many rendom places that I recognized at once, (though it was not in the movies, I picked Mirkwood. That was always the coolest Tolkien created forest to me besides fangorn.)

Im not sure if I want to give it another chance... I realize that I havnt gotten far enough to really see or do everything. Has Massassi "seen this have you heard about this?" Well what do you think? If there are more Tolkien fans what would you think?

Would it be possible for you to misspell more words?

There needs to be a "we don't care, go away and stop posting" poll option

Maybe he's taking after Tolkien and creating his own language.

How and why did this go from the game room to the discussion forum?

And why do you waste time criticizing me? I wasnt asking for smart-ass comments by jerk-off's with nothing better to do than say, " HA you spell wrong, you so stupid!"

If you do not care for the things I post or the threads I make, you should know what to do. Do not even read my threads if you are just going to be a negitive prick. I wasn't asking for a bunch of bored losers to tell me i'm wrong.

Im really not interested in "waxing intellectual" about the subject anymore.

That image is like a tornado in a trailer park, i hope you realize. It's funny to all us elitists in the City but the damage it wreaks among the poor and uneducated is devastating.

Is that your own analogy or have you borrowed it, because that is nice

To discuss your orignal topic:

As you all know, I'm an avid fan of WoW. That said, I played LOTRO for about a week and found it to be rather boring. Something about it did not strike me as exciting like WoW did. The combat system seemed boring (even though it's fairly similar to WoW's), and the graphics didn't appeal to me (too dull and bland).

The fact that they felt the need to make it free to play in order to compete with WoW should indicate something to you.

haha, I read over it and didn't even realize what it was doing there... I just assumed Jon`C was being an *******.. But I didn't realize to what degree.

You played a game for 2 minutes and shut it off, now you're asking us to tell you what you should think of it?

I have an idea: Play it for yourself and figure out if you like it. I know this kind of pragmatism might seem dangerous to you, but it can be very worthwhile.

Here's the terrible thing about LotR:O:

Turbine, the company that created LotR:O, invented the gameplay and user interface style. World of Warcraft is an Asheron's Call 2 clone.

EA had exclusive rights to the LotR film for video games.

LotR:O is exclusively based on the books. None of the sounds, music or artwork from the films.
2010-09-27, 6:40 PM #24
Yeah, that's why certain things never appear in EA games and vice versa.

I think the word I'd use is 'hardly,' unless long brown hair is a resemblance... :P
2010-09-27, 6:48 PM #29
How is this possible, that a character in a video game based on a book would resemble a character in a movie based on the same book?! (Gonna have to read that sentence a few times to parse it)
2010-09-27, 6:51 PM #30
Man, that game looks terrible.

That grammar picture should not be allowed to exist.
You can't judge a book by it's file size

Why? I think it's a great guide. I already printed it out and stuck one on the wall in every room in the house. Great thing about trailers, all the walls are magnetic.

I'm not sure what parts of your posts to ever take seriously, but I'm pretty sure that last bit is hilarious.

So it turns out this thread had nothing to do with a Hamlet/LotR crossover AU MMO. I'm greatly disappointed.

remember back when the movies were new and EA was making those hack & slash type games based on the movies and some other company made a FotR game based on the book and people were all "WTF is this" because they expected it to be just like the hack & slash action of The Two Towers which was released around the same time?

and to add to the confusion the PC version and the PS2 version were the same while the Xbox version was a bit different
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2010-09-27, 8:17 PM #38
Even though I'm knowledgeable of most of that I don't remember when "people were all 'WTF is this'" about any of it.

I remember that of which he speaks. It was pretty "lol" because every review for any lord of the rings game started out with a detailed explanation of what Jim's talking about there.

Yeah, that was pretty much common sense but I don't remember any actual gamers being confused on the issue and it was totally obvious when you read the description on the box. There was a Hobbit and FotR game that were both obviously unrelated to the films. I don't see how anyone could have been confused. As it was, the games received relatively decent reviews and I believe were praised for having more depth than the EA games although they were said to be much slower and boring. From what I remember anyway.
