Play this game at night and sound at a good level. Unbelievably atmospheric and terrifying - you WILL be scared ****less :neckbeard:You will descend :psyduck::psyduck:

I'm not much of a gamer anymore, but this is among the best games I played (yes, including JK :p). A game overflowing with character:

PLAY IT !

Seriously what the hell is wrong with this game...

Meh, I've played it a bit after my friend ranted at me about it.
I didn't find the atmosphere scary so much as tedious.

I found the use of physics puzzles decent, and something most fps' should use some of (remember how Half Life 2 had like... one puzzle?). But the game overall did not impress.

How long did you play it? It takes a while to get in to, and appeals to a specific group of players.

I started playing it but haven't finished. I like it so far.

Played from about 21:00 to 03:00, taking time to explore everything and absorb the story thoroughly. No lights on in the room. Headphones and whiskey were a given.

Played just up to the last 15 minutes, which I did this morning (ending wasn't quite satisfactory).

Tenshu, have you played the Penumbra series? It's by the same studio, Frictional Games, and basically the same style of gameplay. Amensia is like a spiritual successor.

I thought Nintendo had a patent on sanity effects ingame?

All I know is that when I played the demo and got to the flooded library, I physically panicked. I think a bystander would've died laughing looking at my reaction.

Personally I like the part where you have to (mid-game spoiler): distract the monster and sneak by him .

Also I'm stuck on the part where you find (late game spoiler) Agrippa and have to find the parts to the machinery and find the pieces of the orb.. I have no idea where to go. :x

Looked up some penumbra youtube videos... Looks pretty cool, I'll check it out, although the thing I like about amnesia is the fact there's no way whatsoever to kill an enemy.. (that I know of, at least)

this game intrigues me. Though I'd be more psyched being part of the team that made it
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

They could make a game with that much atmosphere where you killed things.

I noticed something interesting tonight. The "startling" effect the game has, every time you find something creepy, actually conditions you after a while. I found a bit where I opened a cabinet and skulls fell out. It did the "startling" effect and I jolted back a little and got goosebumps. From what, in most other games, would be entirely unmoving.

That's just how the audio cues worked in FEAR. The visuals themselves didn't always do it.
