Quote:
A man opened fire with an automatic weapon on the sixth floor of the Perry-Castaneda Library early Tuesday, UT police spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon said.

β€œHe subsequently shot himself. He is deceased,” she said, adding that no one else was injured.

Police and university officials urged students to stay indoors.

β€œA suspected shooter in PCL library is dead. Police are searching for possible second shooter. Lock doors, do not leave your building,” the alert said.

Still seems like no one save the shooter was injured or killed, thank god. I've got a lot of friends down there, and I guess we've all got our Mike Mac to worry about!

I'm alright. I didn't even make it to campus this morning. Woke up and saw an email telling me not to come to school because there was an emergency on campus.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

I hope this doesn't come across as insensitive, but how can somebody manage to open fire with a full auto AK in what I would assume was a reasonable populated location and not hurt anyone? No wonder he killed himself.

It's a huge relief, personally, and just in general when you hear that there are no injuries, because there could have been so many if things worked out differently. Who knows what this guy's intent was... seems strange that nobody got shot, if his intent was to kill.
2010-09-28, 10:07 AM #5
Maybe he missed because he didn't really want to hurt anyone.

Seems likely, based on some of the eyewitness accounts.

Missed that first time around....interesting.

Somebody should make fully automatic AKs illegal.

Did the article mention whether he had the gun legally or not? I was under the impression that you can't buy fully automatic weapons new anymore and that they had to be built prior to 86 to own or transfer and this made them really hard too come by and ridiculously expensive.

He can't have unless he was incredibly rich. It was probably an illegal mod.

I know a few people there as well. Scary, but sounds like it ended appropriately.

I used to work with a black drug dealer that had an AK-47. I have no idea where he got it, or anything, but he brought it out at a party once..... Needless to say everyone freaked out, though he didn't shoot it.

My question is where do you go to an automatic like that!?! I've known army dicks with bigger and more powerful weapons, but I know exactly where they got them...

I don't understand your story. it is missing something; it doesn't make sense.

OH NOW I GET IT. Thank you for including that valuable and relevant information without which I would be lost! You are the best!

PS I thought this was impossible because guns are banned on college campus there??? If this guy broke the law then we should arrest him and put him in jail as an example to others who want to break the OH HE IS DEAD SO I GUESS NEVER MIND.

PPS Seriously though, I'm glad no one got hurt, it seems that in this particular situation lives were preserved at the whim of an insane person instead of taken at his whim, so that was a lucky roll of the dice.

i thought it was quite relevant that he was dealing in black drugs.

seriously though, the only time skin color should be taken into account is if they are albino, cause that just makes everything interestig.

At least there were no casualties this time like the Virginia Tech incident.

Well, saying "black drug dealer" is redundant anyway.

Racist. The Hispanic drug dealers are ruining this country just as well, if not better than, the black drug dealers.

They're just doing the job that white people won't do or black people are too lazy to do. Or is it the Mexicans that are lazy? I can't keep up.

I'd be really very proud of myself if I could have caused this gun ******* to quit IRL.

True story. I got an entire day off class, the majority of which I spent drinking, and the only cost was some wildly unbalanced ******* putting an AK-47 under his own chin and pulling the trigger. Two wins, in my book.

Several bullets, and a perfectly good gun that will probably be melted down or something.
