For what system?
If PC, do you mean games to install or flash games?
What kinda games do you like? Casual is a very vague category.

Yes, sorry for the vagaries. Instally types. For Macs.

I was initially going to buy a flight sim for a friend's birthday, but my budget is only $20, soooo.... on to plan B.

Plan B is to find a casual game or puzzle game (I recommended Portal, and he loved it, but he doesn't like FPS. He liked the puzzle aspect of Portal).

Anyway, the list of Mac games is short. The list of GOOD Mac games is even shorter.

Do you guys know anything about "World of Goo"?

World of Goo is a whole bunch of fun.
I don't know Macs though so my advice ends there

Dragon Age: Origins.

it's not complex at all, and it's super short.

You and I have wildly different definitions of casual games.

Actually, yes. Adventure games are great for this category.

If I recall correctly, Chewbubba has played most of the LucasArts/Sierra adventure games? Some newer adventure games that are pretty great are Syberia and The Longest Journey. The both have pretty good sequels, too.

The tetris I have for my mac sucks balls. It's the "official" one I bought & paid for. I'm running it on a macbook core 2 duo and it skips randomly and loses button presses. It's totally not fun when that happens (which is at least 5-10 times during 20 minutes).

There are several games available for the Mac via Steam. I've been playing Lugaru lately & I love it. I don't know how you'd define "casual" so I'll just list you what I've been playing on my Mac lately.
  • Assault Cube
  • Half-Life 2 - Deathmatch
  • Lugaru
  • Machinarium
  • Nexuiz
  • Quake Live
? :)

Yeah, I saw that and World of Goo, but don't really know anything about them other than their metascores.

Lumines Puzzle fusion for PC is pretty fun too. Not as good as the PSP version but still entertaining.

Being Apple, you'd think they would have created their own mock-Steam software to .... oh.

Lumines is the best puzzle game since Tetris, period.

That said, I also suggest Minecraft.

Not sure if you can get em for the Mac, but Audiosurf and Peggle Deluxe are both simple and fun.

RE: World of Goo -- dude you can say however many times you want that you don't know anything about it, but they have a FREE DEMO you can just go download and see if you like it.

Descent 1, 2, and 3.

Seriously, I just got these yesterday and I'm so hooked. They can be had online for anywhere from cheap to free* and there are mods to make them run flawlessly on high resolution on Windows 7. (D1x rebirth / d2x rebirth)

That's a great idea, Dash. I'd love to reply Descent with a facelift

Haha, that reminds me I bought Descent 1 from gamestop like almost 10 years ago for $1 with 5 floppy disks.. actually had my first MP experience with this game back in the day.

With only $20 to my budget, and Steam running a 1/2 price sale on some games right now, I bought the following for my friend:

Peggle Deluxe (spent more hours than I'd like to admit on that one)
Plants vs. Zombies
Puzzle Dimension

I used to have those discs too. They're gone now, though. :/ It wasn't my first MP game, but I did play co-op with a buddy via modems. Good times.
