Tech Help: Connecting to the network

Hey Massassians.

I figure I have another year or so left living at home since I am now saving up for my own place now that I have a real job. In the mean time I figure I am going to try to make the best of it. Currently I am running a setup which is pretty amateur just to connect my computer to the router. Several years ago I bought 2 100 foot RJ45 cables just to run from the router to my computer and I just drilled a hole in my wall so it could come through. I have been wanting to clean it up so it looks nice by actually having wall outlets that I can just plug into, currently there are 2 cables but I want to add 2 more for a total of 4.

This is how it looks now:

I am wondering what is the best way to go about this? Note: Wireless is not an option, have already tried it and got a booster as well... Something keeps ****ing with the signal and I only get 2 bars.

1. Should I just cut the cables I have and wire them into the outlet boxes and run 2 more Cables?
2. Should I buy another router or switch and wire it up in the attic above the garage and just run one wire to the main router?

And if option 2 how much work is involved with setting up a new router or switch, do they come plug and play or would I need to setup using hyper terminal (I know how to I am just wondering, I have never bought another router or switch)

I have no idea why you'd ever use hyper terminal for anything ever nowadays.

I'd just get a switch, it'd be the easiest method. A switch will have absolutely no setup (in fact, even if you wanted, you couldn't do anything to it). It's all hardware, there's no configuration.

If he gets an unmanaged switch.

Managed switches very much require configuration. Wouldn't bother with one of those though unless you wanted specific control over individual network ports.

Yeah, like there'd be any reason to go high end on this >.>

We're not running a full blown Cisco network here :P

Is it a wifi router?
You could just get a wifi card.

It took me a second there to realise that wasn't meant to be a plan view. :P

I had that trouble. I put a PCI wifi card in, then attached a 5' extension so I could get the antenna away from my PC. Works much better now.

I didn't until I read your post. This is why we always put the ground plane in section drawings!

Might be a dumb suggestion as I know next to nothing about them but have you considered using LAN over mains? It might be a neater solution.
